Traveling again
from Set Meridian Hosted by Set Meridian
The car door slammed shut with a satisfying clunk, and the engine hummed to life, vibrating under our feet like a pulse, well almost since it was the hum of an electric car. We were finally moving. The radio was cranked up, we took turns to fill the cabin with each others tastes in music. Outside, the morning sun was just hitting the asphalt, turning the highway into a glittering ribbon that stretched into the horizon. "Look, look! The mountains!" someone yelled from the back seat, pressing their face against the glass. Suddenly, there they were, massive peaks cutting into the blue sky, topped with a blinding cap of white snow. We didn't just see them; we felt them. We took the sharp curves of the mountain pass with a collective lean, laughing as a stray water bottle rolled across the floorboard. Every viewpoint was a race to see who could get their boots on the dirt first. We spilled out into the crisp air, arms wrapped around each other's shoulders, pointing at the winding river far down-below. Everything felt vividly alive. The taste of the mountain meal, the shared crunch of snacks, the wind whipping through open windows and tangling our hair, it was a kaleidoscope of movement. We were a traveling with sudden bursts of song, and absolute certainty that this moment, in this beautiful place, was exactly where we were meant to be. The world was huge, and we were running right through the center of it together.
