Tributes to late Minister in the Presidency Jackson Mthembu
from African Dialogue · host Channel Africa
South Africans bid an emotional farewell to the late Minister in the Presidency Jackson Mthembu over the weekend. He has been described by many as a humble, gentle giant and passionate about serving his country and fighting corruption. The anti-apartheid activist, who was part of the liberation struggle inside South Africa, cut his political teeth in student politics in the 1970s and his activism continued when he was a student at the University of Fort Hare, resulting in his expulsion in 1980. Between 1986 and 1988, he was charged with sabotage, treason and terrorism, and tried together with 30 other activists from his hometown Emalahleni in what was known as the Bethal Terrorism Trial. He was later acquitted. He later rose through the ranks of the African National Congress occupying different roles until his death. To assist us with:• Nomvula Mokonyane a member of the African National Congress’s National Executive Committee and is also a head of the Gauteng Organising and Campaign Committee. • Minister of Social Development Lindiwe Zulu • Bathabile Dlamini is the president of the African National Congress’s Women’s League.
