I often reflect on the questions I am asked after I deliver my signature inspirational keynote Choose & become. One question that comes up from time to time is this: “How long did it take you to trust your husband, especially once you became a mother?” For me, the answer is simple, but the journey to get there was not. I was 35 when I married Joe. By then, I had spent years doing the individual work—counseling, deep self-reflection—that brought me to a place where I could choose to become a mom. And once I made that choice, I knew Joe was the partner I trusted with my whole heart. Trust wasn’t something Joe had to earn after marriage or when Lilly was born. It was something I had already chosen, fully and completely, before we stepped into those chapters together. Everybody’s relationship with trust looks different.
