from Matter of Fact: A play on "matter" (physics) and "facts" (news). · host Larry White

After her parents died in a 2003 arson fire in Brockton, 17-year-old Frances Choy was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison, despite a handwritten "murder plan" found in the room of her nephew, Kenny, who testified against her in exchange for immunity. Her conviction was eventually challenged when her attorney discovered racist and sexist emails exchanged by the trial prosecutors and evidence that authorities had suppressed police reports regarding Kenny’s prior criminal behavior and motives Frances was exonerated in 2020 after serving 17 years in prison and ultimately reached a $3.75 million settlement in 2024 to resolve a civil lawsuit regarding the systemic failures and misconduct in her case.
