In 2018, a sanitation worker in Washington discovered a suitcase containing the burned and dismembered remains of Jamie Haggard, a nurse who had been missing since 2016. Investigators focused on her brother, David Haggard, after finding Jamie's blood in a vehicle he had used and discovering that he had impersonated her on social media to create the false impression she was still alive. Although David maintained his innocence and some family members supported him, he was convicted of second-degree murder in 2022 and sentenced to 15 years in prison.
