The noir detective anthology kicks off with a new cast, a new case, and a new flavor of desperation. This is a rare chance for screenwriters to examine a second Pilot Episode from the same tv series and writer. How does the Season 2 Pilot stack up next to the Season 1 Pilot? How does showrunner Nic Pizzolatto violate and innovate the film noir detective genre? What are the opportunities and challenges of writing an anthology series? How do you calibrate prestige writing like True Detective with an American TV audience that expects a dynamite teaser and Matthew McConaughey to walk in the door?
