The Trump administration initiated the deportation of alleged Venezuelan gang members by invoking the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, a rarely used wartime law. This action targeted individuals associated with the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, which the administration labeled as a proxy for Venezuela's government. However, U.S. District Judge James E. Boasberg issued a temporary restraining order blocking these deportations, citing concerns overdue process and the applicability of the Alien Enemies Act in this context.
