Trump Declines Debates, Media's Maui Malpractice, Chicago's Shooting Hours

First, they react to Donald Trump's apparent decision to skip not only this week's first GOP presidential debate but to skip all of them. Trump does not see them as necessary given his big leads nationally and in key states, but there are several reasons why he may want to reconsider. They also shudder as Hawaii Gov. Josh Green admits it's possible or even likely that many of the more than one thousand people still missing from the Maui wildfires are children. But the grim news also raises a big question. How is the likely death of several hundred children not the dominant headline every single day? When looking at previous disasters, the answer seems to be a very predictable one.
