Trump Headlines, Military Chain-of-Command Debate, Bay County Commission Race, & Immigration Policy with Special Guest Simon Hankinson

from America in View Political News Podcast · host Brett and Matt Doster

Broadcasting from the capital city of the Free State of Florida, we have a packed program this week covering the whirlwind of national headlines and important conversations shaping our state and country. On today’s show, we’ll talk through the latest political drama out of Washington, including the escalating rhetoric between President Trump and congressional leaders, new movement on the Epstein files, and ongoing questions about who has authority to regulate AI. We also discuss the surprising split between President Trump and Marjorie Taylor Greene and what that shift may signal for the political landscape heading into the holidays. We are glad to welcome longtime friend of the show Brian Rust, who joins us to share the news of his run for Bay County Commission. Brian gives us an inside look at the challenges facing local governments, from workforce shortages to the growing debate over property taxes, and why conservative leadership at the community level matters now more than ever. Later in the program, we are joined by Simon Hankinson of The Heritage Foundation for a detailed conversation on immigration policy. Simon is a Senior Research Fellow in the Border Security and Immigration Center at The Heritage Foundation. From 1999–2022, he was a Foreign Service Officer serving in India, Fiji, Ghana, Slovakia, Togo, Washington, D.C., Marseille, and Nairobi. Prior to entering the State Department, Simon worked as a lawyer in London, and then taught history, English, and drama at a private school in Miami. Simon holds a master’s degree in modern history from St. Andrews, Scotland, a degree from the College of Law in London, and a master’s degree in international security affairs from the National Defense University in Washington, D.C.
