Smith included this information for a reason: the legal doctrine of co-conspirator liability provides that once someone joins a conspiracy, that person can be held criminally responsible for every crime committed by every other member of the conspiracy, provided the crime was a reasonably foreseeable consequence of the nature of the conspiracy.
