"Trump Portrait"

from Read With Me · host Benjamin Wittes

Good Morning:I don’t know what the universe is of undecided swing voters who are also fans of 20th Century classical music. But for all eight of them out there, consider this video my personal appeal to you. For everyone who needs an explanation, the piece is an homage to—or maybe a parody of—Aaron Copland’s famous 1942 piece, “Lincoln Portrait,” which features a spoken-word narrator reading famous quotations of Abraham Lincoln. Here’s a famous performance of it featuring James Earl Jones as the narrator:Parody is actually the wrong word for this work, as the point is not to make fun of Copland. The point, of course, is the contrast between Trump and Lincoln. I hope it reaches every Copland lover in every swing state who has still not decided how to vote. Today’s #BeastOfTheDay is this guy. Make sure you watch his trick: This is a public episode. If you'd like to discuss this with other subscribers or get access to bonus episodes, visit www.dogshirtdaily.com/subscribe
