Trump Rally Aims to Flip North Carolina Senate Race | Durham News

Trump’s first North Carolina trip in months heads to Gastonia this Wednesday to rally behind Senate candidate Michael Whatley — a former GOP power broker handpicked by Trump himself. With polls showing Whatley trailing Democrat Roy Cooper and Trump’s approval in the state slipping, the campaign is betting that Trump’s hometown appearance will energize wavering Republicans and close the gap. Whatley’s deep ties to Trump’s brand could be the key to unlocking undecided GOP voters — especially as only 86% of Republicans are locked in behind him, compared to 91% of Democrats backing Cooper. The rally at the Gastonia Municipal Airport at 7 PM aims to turn the tide in a race that’s been leaning Democratic — but with Trump’s star power and Whatley’s loyalty, this could be the move that shifts momentum.
