Trump Renames Lake Ontario Sparking Trade War | US News

Trump shocks the world by renaming Lake Ontario “Lake America” amid a bitter trade war with Canada, citing years of unfair treatment — but polls show only 20% of Americans support it, while 46% oppose. Even among his own voters, the split is razor-thin. As tariffs hit $20 billion in Canadian goods and Canada vows dollar-for-dollar retaliation, everyday Americans feel the squeeze from rising prices and disrupted supply chains. Ontario’s Premier Doug Ford escalates tensions with a fiery radio rant — “kiss my ass” — before softening his stance, reminding everyone that Canada-U.S. trade ties are worth nearly $900 billion annually. With midterm elections looming, this chaotic trade drama could sway voters as Republicans fight to hold onto power.
