Trump Reverses On Strait Tolls, Democrats Sink Senate NDAA Vote, ICE Traffic Stops Halted, Daylight Savings Time Bill Passes House

Today on America in the Morning Trump Walks Back Strait Toll Plan President Trump walked back his announced plan Tuesday to have the US toll ships in the Strait of Hormuz, but said unless Iran comes back to the table the bombing campaign launched over the weekend will only get worse.  Joan Jones reports that the US military re-imposed a naval blockade on all Iranian ports as a part of a pressure campaign to get Iran back to the peace talks.   Democrats Sink NDAA Senate Democrats followed the lead of Chuck Schumer and defeated a motion to proceed to the $1 point one five trillion dollar annual defense authorization bill, legislation that usually enjoys strong bipartisan support but this year has become snarled in a partisan fight over defense spending levels in protest over the Iran war.  Correspondent Lisa Dwyer reports an angry Republican Senator Dan Sullivan of Alaska blasted the Democrat’s vote.   Lindsey Graham’s Sister Sworn In The sister of the late-Lindsey Graham was sworn in and becomes the first-ever woman to represent South Carolina in the Senate.  Washington correspondent Sagar Meghani reports Darline Graham took the oath of office to fill the rest of late brother's Senate term.   House OK’s Daylight Savings Time Plan In a bipartisan vote, the House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved an effort to make daylight saving time permanent called the Sunshine Protection Act.   Boat Sinks Near Alcatraz At least one person was killed and two others are missing after an incident on a pontoon boat that sank in the San Francisco Bay Tuesday afternoon.    ICE-Related Death In Florida It’s now the third death involving ICE agents in one week.  Jennifer King reports a man died during an encounter with immigration agents, this time in Florida.   Protests Over Maine ICE Shooting The Maine attorney general’s office is leading the investigation into Monday’s fatal shooting of a motorist in Maine by an ICE agent. As correspondent Mike Hempen reports, following the second shooting death of a person during a traffic stop by ICE, and in both cases agents were not wearing body cameras, the Trump administration has ordered ICE to suspend most vehicle traffic stops, and Maine Independent Senator Angus King, speaking on CNN, says that there are serious questions that need answers.   Blanche On The Hot Seat Contentious might be an understatement as a confirmation hearing is scheduled to begin today for Todd Blanche, President Trump’s nominee to head the Department of Justice.   Teens Charged In Illinois Mass Murder A 15 and 16-year-old are under arrest in Illinois, charged with the murders of five family members who were killed in three separate locations in the small town of East St. Louis.  Sue Aller reports police still don’t know what led a 15-year-old girl to kill among other people her own brother, sister, and grandmother.   Cyclospora Cases Rise The number of cyclospora cases in the US is rising rapidly in an outbreak that began in Michigan and Ohio and has now expanded to 34 states from Vermont to California.  Lisa Dwyer reports nearly one-in-every 11 cases has required hospitalization. Carroll Receives Payment Three years after a jury concluded President Trump should pay $5 million in damages to the writer E.
