Trusting God’s Timing in the Cold Seasons

from Your Nightly Prayer: Evening Prayers for Christians · host Your Nightly Prayer

Waiting seasons can feel cold—like life is stalled and prayers are hanging in the air unanswered. But Ecclesiastes reminds us that every season has a purpose and an appointed time. Cold seasons are not wasted time. Think about winter: the world looks quiet and lifeless, yet beneath the surface, roots are strengthening and soil is being prepared for what’s next. In the same way, God often does deep work in the seasons that feel dormant. Waiting doesn’t mean He has forgotten you—it may mean He is forming something in you and preparing something for you. When others seem to move forward while you remain still, comparison can steal peace. But God’s timing is personal and intentional. He knows when you’re ready, when the ground is ready, and when the gift can be sustained. Tonight, trust that God sees beyond this season. What feels like a delay may be design—and God is faithful in every season, including this one. TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE: “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” — Ecclesiastes 3:1 YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER: Dear God,Tonight, we bring You our weariness in waiting. This season feels cold and quiet, and we don’t always understand Your timing. Forgive us for the moments we’ve doubted You or tried to rush what You are still preparing. Help us surrender our expectations and release the pressure to figure everything out. Teach us to wait with faith, rather than frustration. When it feels like nothing is happening, remind us that You are still working—strengthening our roots, shaping our hearts, and preparing what comes next. Thank You for Your Word that reminds us there is a season for everything. We trust that this cold season has purpose, and that You are faithful to carry us through it.In Your name we pray,Amen. THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON Strengthening beneath the surface:How might this season be forming your faith, character, or dependence on God—even if you can’t see results yet? Surrendering the urge to rush:Where are you tempted to force timing, outcomes, or clarity? Name it, and place it back in God’s hands. Trusting God where you are:What would it look like to trust Him fully tonight—not in the future you hope for, but in the present season you’re in?
