TRUTH TUESDAY: Why I Can Trust in Jesus Despite the Failures of Christianity | Jon Rhoades
from First Christian Church of Brazil Indiana Sermons · host First Christian Church in Brazil Indiana
Welcome to our Christian podcast, where we delve into the challenges of sharing our faith in today's world. While it may seem like everyone already knows about Jesus, we often encounter honest rejections when we honestly share our faith. One common question we receive is how we can put our faith in a religion that has been involved in historical atrocities such as the crusades, Salem Witch trials, slavery, and prejudices. In response, we acknowledge that Christianity has indeed failed in many instances, and skepticism is warranted. However, our faith is not in a religion; it is in Jesus. Jesus never advocated for these behaviors, as evident in Mark 12:30-31, where he emphasizes the greatest commandments of loving God and loving our neighbor. Jesus even addressed racial tensions in his parable of the Good Samaritan, challenging prejudice. While some may wrongly attribute the sins of Christianity to Jesus, we encourage them to read the gospels for themselves. We believe that our greatest source of evangelism is Jesus Christ, and it is our responsibility to show His love. As 1 John 4:12 reminds us, if we love one another, God's love is brought to full expression in us. When people blame their lack of faith on a lack of love, we must remember that love conquers sin, as stated in 1 Peter 4:8. So, let us continue on our journey, sharing our faith and demonstrating love to all.
