Trying to become a better parent while rejecting the one you are now
from Living Inspired with Autism · host Antoinette
Send us Fan MailWhat if trying so hard to become a better parent is actually making parenting feel even harder? As autism parents, we can carry an exhausting list of expectations.I should be calmer.I should have more patience.I should know what to do by now.I should be handling this better. And underneath all of those thoughts can sit one painful belief: I’m not doing this well enough. In this episode of Living Inspired with Autism, I’m talking about the difference between wanting to grow and trying to escape the person you are right now.We explore why self-acceptance does not mean giving up, lowering your standards or allowing yourself to behave however you want. It means learning to meet yourself honestly, without turning every difficult emotion, reaction or hard day into evidence that you are failing.Because you cannot shame yourself into becoming calmer. You cannot criticise yourself into greater emotional capacity.Real self-leadership begins when you can say:I understand why I feel this way. I can accept where I am. And I can still choose where I go from here.We also look at how your relationship with yourself affects your relationship with your autistic child, your ability to stay connected during dysregulation, and ultimately how much of your own life you still allow yourself to create.Your child gets to be part of your life. And so do you.Consult Call - Click HEREOne-on-One Coaching - Click HEREThe Autism Parent-focused Blueprint - Click HEREExplore a variety of tailored resources for parents of autistic children on my website: www.lliautism.netFollow me on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube @livelifeinspiredautism for more insights and support.Feel free to email me at [email protected]
