It is just over four years ago since the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake and Tsumani hit that country. The people of that region are still picking up the pieces. According to disaster management thought leaders, the catastrophe which claimed thousands of lives is a reminder of the importance of disaster risk reduction. The UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, UNISDR, joined in the world last week to remember those who died and suffered that day. The organisation says learning from that tragic event has helped in the development of a robust new agreement on disaster risk reduction which will be adopted at the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction currently underway in Japan's city of Sendai. Yokono Kichiro, Director of the city's Post Disaster Reconstruction Bureau, who spoke through an interpreter - says he remembers that day vividly..
