What happens to the average rush-hour commuter when he first discovers our morning show on his radio dial? I was sitting in my lane just minding my own business, and all of a sudden, bam! I was like... What happens to his radio when he cranks up the great music we play?
The whole car's sparking. It was all, come, come, come, come, come! There was flames coming out the side of it and everything! Thanks for listening.
Sorry about the blown speakers. It was nice. Quiet, people. Settle down, because it's time.
Time for what? Showtime. When does it start? Right now.
3, 2, 1. Let's get on with the show. Let's do it. Alright, everybody, it's 7 minutes after the hour here on NBC 1260 and 96.1 FM.
This is The Daily Blender. We are back. We are live on the air. It's Tuesday.
Hello, how the hell are you? Super. Not talking to you. You're the reason we didn't have a show yesterday, so I'm not talking to you.
I'm talking to the listeners, the ones that really matter, the ones that really count, the spine of this show, the meat and potatoes, the ones that we love. Not the people who call in sick. The twigs and berries. No, no, no, that's not what we call them.
We really don't call them that. I like calling them that. Yeah, you shouldn't call them that. That's why they don't like you.
Pam over here, Pam Cleveland. Hi. Hi. A little under the weather.
I apologize. You're a hookin'. Yeah, we don't need to get into it. You look a little peekin'.
Peekin'? Peekin'. What kind of word is that for a guy? Peekin'.
She's not a guy. What does that mean? No, you don't say peekin' is a guy. You look peekin'.
You look a little pale, a little sweaty. Pasty. Yeah, just not, as I was saying off-air, not operating at 100%. But you know what?
I'll give you my full 55% today. Wow, that's an upgrade from what we usually get. I know. Morris in there pushing the buttons and taking your calls at 480-423-1260.
So, I don't know what the hell's going on over at Netflix. Did you hear about this, Mary? Trouble. Well, they're not in trouble.
They're doing fine. They're just, somebody is, you know, sometimes somebody goes crazy and they start to make changes and do things. And I'm sure there's some sort of reason for it. But I remember I got this email from the fellow at Netflix.
And he says, Hey, Jeffrey, by the way, we're raising your rates. Sorry, dude. I'm like, Hey, okay, well, I'm just gonna change my thing and set it up in two DVDs and Netflix online. I just, well, I don't need two DVDs because really, now I only have one DVD sitting there unwatched all the time instead of two.
And so I was like, Oh, it's fine. No problem. And now I get another email. I'm like, Are you kidding me?
I thought about the raise the rates again. It turns out they sort of maybe are. I'm not sure. They're separating the online stuff.
They're gonna call that Netflix. And then they're going to call the DVD service Quickster. Quickster? Yeah.
That's stupid. I don't get why they feel the need to do that. I mean, it makes no sense. They even admit, yeah, we're probably gonna lose like a million subscribers over this.
Which means you're gonna lose anywhere between $10 and $16 million a month. But I heard that most of their expense comes from those mail order DVDs. Why separate the two companies? They're separating so they can jack the price up on the DVDs.
I think they just want to get rid of it. I'm sure Blockbuster's going, Oh, crap. We could have just held on for another couple of months. Sons of bitches.
But yeah, I guess Quickster is what they'll call the DVD, which by the way, happens to be Morris's wife's nickname for him in the bedroom. Quickster. For me, yeah. Okay, never mind.
Who do you think I was talking about? I was talking about her. Oh, no. That takes a good 45 minutes of work.
Thanks for paying attention. So here's what it means to you. I guess they doubled the price back in July or something like that. And they raised the prices.
They're saying that, well, they're making two separate companies. They're not just splitting them. So Netflix is online. Quickster is for the DVDs.
I wonder how much this is gonna affect the cost. Now, somebody over at Netflix, by the way, did not check out to see if someone else was using Quickster. Turns out there's a guy on Twitter who uses Quickster. His name is Jason Castillo.
And he likes to tweet under that name. Mostly about reefer. So, good for him. Great association.
On the downside, it appears you're gonna have to set up a whole other account. And then all the stuff you have in your queue is gone. You have to reestablish it over on Quickster. Seems unnecessarily complex and inconvenient and a pain in the ass.
And this was a bad one. I'm like, well, no problem. I'll just stick with Netflix and just keep watching online, which I usually do. Well, they're losing stars.
You know, the stars, you know, a network is where they get a lot of their movies. A lot more recent movies on Netflix are done through that deal. And they couldn't reach an agreement to renew the deal. So now, I don't know what's gonna be available on Netflix online.
Am I the only one that still enjoys going to a video store and browsing? Yes. I always like that. You actually enjoy that?
No. Yeah. It's always fun when you say, hey, let's go to the video store. Like, all right, woohoo.
Okay, grandpa. I like the Redbox. You can just go to the Redbox and kind of scroll through. A lot of people use that.
Yeah. I've gotten a few off Redbox. It's all right. Quickster's gonna be deadster.
And as all Netflix will probably be is an online streaming of movies. If they can keep it up, they might go into the toilet if they can't keep a good quality batch of movies available. I don't know. I mean, I watch a lot of my favorite TV shows on the Netflix.
Yeah, I was gonna say, the one thing that I found the Netflix streaming to be good for is catching up on some of the TV shows they have online. The earlier seasons. It's intimidating, though, when you got, like, 24. I always wanted to watch 24.
And I'm thinking to myself, all right, I'll DVR it. And then I DVR the 24, and I realize, holy crap, I got 17 hours of 24 to watch. What am I gonna do? I'm not gonna sit there and just have a 24 marathon.
I've got a life in here. So, like, if you don't keep up with a show like that, especially what you have to watch each and every hour in a row. There's no, like, watching later episodes, seeing the previews at the beginning of the episode, going, oh, okay, I know where we're at. You have to watch every last damn hour of 24.
Those marathons are fun to do every once in a while. Yeah, every now and then. But I don't have time for that. Make time.
There's certain things in my life I wouldn't mind having a marathon for. And perhaps Kiefer Sutherland's not one of them. So, anyways, coming up, we've got Ask Dr. Jeffrey.
We've got your entertainment news right now. Let's take a look at your headlines. Yes, NASA officials say that a 12,500-pound satellite will crash into Earth in an unpopulated area on Friday. This Friday.
Yeah, in other words, it'll crash into Earth in a very populated spot, probably on Thursday. So kiss your ass goodbye. In order to win back customers turned off by the price increase, Netflix has changed the name of its DVD service to Quickster, hoping to do the same thing. Barack Obama has changed his name to Abraham Lincoln.
I think it's a good idea. He unveiled a plan, I guess, Obama did, to cut the federal deficit by $3 trillion. Here's how it works. It doesn't.
In case you're wondering. Former President Jimmy Carter says he doesn't think anybody could beat President Obama in 2012. Well, that's just what Obama needs to, you know, feel good about his re-election chances. Endorsement of Jimmy Carter.
Well done. So Japan was hit the other day with an earthquake. Fortunately for all involved, the earthquake was only 6.6 on the Richter scale, so it didn't wake up Godzilla. Only 6.6.
That's still... It takes a little more than that to wake up Godzilla. Or Godzilla. Godzilla!
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick has been knocked out of play at Sunday's game. He got an injury. Unfortunately, this meant Vick had to be put down. Turned around behind the bar and he electrocuted him.
I wish. TV show about the lives of the Sex and the City girls. You know, when they were in high school is in the works. I'll watch.
But then I'm a sucker for anything that's set during the Revolutionary War. Lindsay Lohan upset customers at an LA grocery store when she used the express lane with way too many products. Brother. I don't blame them And uh, well you'll probably get just as good of advice as you would from somebody working at Aerospatool.
How do you say that? Aeropostal? Poodle? Aeropostal.
Aeropostal? Yeah. Really? Aerospitoodle.
I like Aerospitoodle. I always call it Aerospitoodle. I like it. I like that better than Aerospoodle or Aeropostal.
You're both pretty wrong. What is it then? I don't know how to do it, but I can't do Aeropostal. Aeropostal?
I don't know. Anybody knows, please call. We need your advice. 480-423-1260.
How do you pronounce that clothing line store? I'm right here. I'm gonna call in. But no, because you're not...
He says you're not right. We need somebody else to call and tell us. How do you pronounce that? 480-423-1260.
All right, let's get right to it. Here's uh, Ben. He's 45 and he lives in Mesa. He says, Hey Jeffrey.
Always make fun of people who get excited for Christmas. They put lights in their houses in November, and leave them on through March. Heard you talking about this the other day. Christmas is a great holiday and all, but Halloween is definitely my favorite.
I'm a dork about Halloween, and I have all kinds of decorations. I get so excited for Halloween. In fact, this year I've already decorated my house, and my wife is giving me a hard time about it. She said it's way too early for me to start decorating, and I'm no better than the Christmas people that I make fun of.
Is September too early to start decorating for Halloween? Do other people love Halloween as much as I do? Ben, I don't think anybody loves Halloween as much as you do. You keep the Halloween spirit in your heart.
Why don't you just leave it off your damn house? Your wife is actually right. I think it's too soon for Halloween stuff up right now. What do you wait, two weeks before?
No. When do you put Halloween stuff up? October? Maybe the last couple days in September.
Yeah, it would have to be the very end of September, if that falls on the weekend. There is too much dissension on the topic here between the two of you. First off, it's Ask Dr. Jeffrey, not Ask the people who happen to be next to him.
But I will welcome your input on this, because like an idiot, I asked for it. But yes, I think with that, we're gonna say, until October 1st, no Halloween decorations. Fair enough. I didn't ask you.
Unless I'm the x-ray technician with the head nurse. When I become a doctor, I become an arrogant son of a bitch. And I can do this. And of course, once I leave the room, the nurse takes over and does the real work.
I know how this works. Okay, well, I'm gonna do the real work, because if October 1st is a Monday, you can put it up on September 29th or 30th if that's the weekend. No. Then it's okay.
No. You have to wait until the next weekend. Or just do it on Monday. Whatever.
I don't care. No. October is the official day. If I see any Halloween decorations before October, I'm gonna go off with a wiffle ball bat.
Pow. All right, so here's the thing. His question is, is September too early? Yes.
But because your wife is nagging you, you should divorce her. All right, next question is from Tom. Goes to ASU, and he's 19. He says, I moved into a dorm at ASU with some friends, and well, they're good guys, but one of them has a habit that's absolutely disgusting.
He flosses and cuts his toenails right there in the living room, right in front of me. That is gross. These are habits that should be kept to the bathroom, not out in the open for all to see. Tom, you're obviously a single child.
You must have been an only child. Yeah, flossing not so bad, but the nails are gross. I think the nails is okay, but flossing in the living room, that's disgusting. I don't know.
You walk around, you floss, you know. Well, if you don't floss that much and it's a big bloody mess, then yes. No, but then again, you're flicking out little food particles all over the living room. Yeah, that's probably an activity that is best in the bathroom.
Anyway, she says, I know when you move in with someone, there's a lot of annoying stuff you'll have to put up with, but what my roommate does is over the line. Really? He heard some new this. I had some roommates when I was doing stand-up comedy.
When I went on tour, I'd come home. They were gone. Stole half my clothes, ran up an $80 phone bill, and I never saw them again. I would have loved for them to floss in the living room.
And cut their toenails. Sure. So the question is, shouldn't flossing and clipping toenails be done in private? Why does my roommate have to do this stuff in front of me?
I think you're being an uptight little bitch. Okay? So maybe you just need to start getting used to, you know, working with people and living together. If it bothers you so much, go live alone.
Or at least try to resolve it by saying, hey buddy, how about you just kind of do that off where I don't have to see it? Of course, his response appropriately would be, whatever man. I don't know, I mean, uh. What's so gross about cutting your toenails?
I mean, I understand you don't want to leave a pile of toenails on the floor. Yeah, where are they going? Same concept. Same concept is like, you know, a toenail goes flying off somewhere, and you ever step on a toenail that's been in the carpet, and you're like, ow!
It's almost as bad as a Lego. But, um, no, I think it would be polite to do this stuff in private. There's nothing more annoying than hearing somebody clipping their toenails off even at work. There's nothing more annoying?
Oh, there's plenty more annoying. But that's one of the pet peeves of mine, so. Uh, Tom, walk it off, okay? All right, next, Jack is 23, uh, from Awatukee.
He says, over the weekend, I hooked up with a girl. Well, congratulations. I'm sure your parents are very proud. Uh, he says, as she was leaving the next morning, and she put on one of my shirts, my flip-flops, and a pair of my workout shorts, all she had to wear home was a party dress and heels, and she said she didn't want to do the walk of shame.
Even so, I said no. Those are my clothes. I never lend my clothes to anybody, especially not a one-night stand. I'm not a jerk.
Well, no, clearly from the last sentence, yeah. I just don't want to lend my clothes to girls and then never see the clothes again. It's happened way too many times. Jack, you dog.
It's happened way too many times. It was a girl's choice to come home with me, so she should deal with having to do the walk of shame, right? Whoa. Do guys have to lend their clothes to women after one-night stands?
Jack. God. It would be the polite and gentlemanly thing to do, but since you've never really been much of a gentleman, yeah, get your clothes back. Make her go home that way.
Maybe she won't make the same mistake with somebody like you again. Another douchebag. Mary is 27 from Peoria. She says, my boyfriend and I were out walking the other day, and I saw some guys looking at me at a stoplight.
Didn't think much of it until they yelled out, hey, your girlfriend's hot! And they drove off. These guys could clearly see I was with my boyfriend, yet they still felt compelled to catcall. Not the first time this has happened either.
Well, aren't you something, Mary? Guys are always whooping it and hollering up at me when I'm with my boyfriend. Why do guys catcall me when I'm with my boyfriend? Do they really think I'll leave my boyfriend and go running after them?
You know, I don't really do that, so I'm not quite sure what to think about it. But what do you think, Morris? You're a good guy. Yeah, I've never hit on a girl that was with her boyfriend.
That's... Yeah, but if you're doing a drive-by... Yeah, it's like it's a good-looking chick, and they're like, hey, you're hot! You know, here's the thing.
If I'm the boyfriend with her, it really is not going to bother me much, because me personally, I'm attracted to her. I find her beautiful, so I'm not going to be surprised if somebody else does. I'm going to kind of chuckle and be like, are you idiots, whatever, because you know there's no chance that she is going to go running off after you. And they're just messing with the guy, you know, because some guys go crazy over that.
Then they blame the girl. Why do you look so sexy? You know? Sorry!
So Mary, it's a... They're just having some fun. It's a... I guess it's a compliment.
And, you know, don't just take it as it is. No, there is really no hope or reason behind it. Why do those guys that do catcalling, like, I've seen this somewhere, like a guy sitting on a construction site catcalls a woman. She That's true.
That'll be our theme song. You can dance if you want to. And like maybe one night we go out and we do a certain dance at all these different places, or then we just do the robot everywhere, no matter what's happening. I love it.
Start a mosh pit to Enya. Exactly. Sail away, sail away. Oh God.
We are going to have to ask you to leave. Enya doesn't like violence. I want to be in that dance troupe. Yeah.
When are auditions? Well, there's no auditions. You get to be in it. Sweet.
So yeah, we'll have signups. Do we have to have auditions for Inappropriate Dance Troupe? See, I can't even dance. I'm such a bad dancer, I can't dance inappropriately.
You're in. Can you do the robot? Not even a little bit, no. That's all I got to do.
Anyway, so yes, the Daily Blender Inappropriate Dance Troupe, it will have to have rehearsals. A couple. A couple of them. And we'll do them on the webcam.
I'll be like five minutes before we do whatever we're doing. We'll work on some choreography during the break. Right, sure. That'll be fun.
All right, time now for your entertainment news, Pam. Okay, well, I have some reports on some other inappropriate dancing that took place, of course, last night as the new season of Dancing with the Stars premiered. There's some inappropriate dancing. Oh, yeah.
And controversial Dancing Dude. You hear that? That is Chaz Bono dancing. That's awful.
That wasn't Khloe Kardashian cheering her brother on. No, that was actually just Chaz Bono getting to the stage. Here's the dance, ready? Oh, my gosh, this is awesome.
I hope that has that really cool bassy sound on your radios. It doesn't. It sounds bad. So for them, they're just sitting there going, what the hell are they doing?
They were kind of funny earlier, but now they just got weird. He got with them. Whatever. Whatever.
We blame Pam, too. Well, actually, Chaz turned out to be not so bad. The judges loved his upbeat attitude and the way he threw himself into the dance. Now, technically, he wasn't the best, but he wasn't actually the worst, either.
He ended up in the middle of the pack with a score of 17. Queer Eye star Carson Kressley also got 17. The worst dancer of the night with a score of 14 was Ron Artest, or if you prefer, Metal World Peace, as we know he just changed his name. Not surprised.
Oh, brother. And then came with a score of 15, George Clooney's ex-girlfriend Elizabeth Canlis, who was surprisingly bad. She's really going to have to step up her game if she hopes to beat his current girlfriend, Stacy Keebler, who finished second when she was on the show. Now, another pleasant surprise last night was Nancy Grace.
She danced better than most people expected and also had an enormous chest ornament that Judge Bruno Tonioli was kind enough to point out to everybody. Here's the thing. If they enjoyed Nancy Grace, it's because all that time she was dancing, she couldn't talk. Was it the same Nancy Grace that's always in favor of the prosecution on one TV?
Yes, same Nancy Grace. She's annoying, though. I don't like her. I see how that's going to help more.
I'll try. I'm getting better. I'm learning more and more words in Spanish. Some of them actually polite.
I'm just saying. Tonight, late night talk shows. Letterman's got Jonah Hill and Paula Abdul, along with Coldplay. Sorry, Dave.
Can't watch. Conan O'Brien's got Matt Nathanson. Let's see. Bryce Dallas Howard.
Tonight show's got Gerard Butler and Kelly Clarkson. Kimmel's got Simon Cowell and Gavin DeGraw. Craig Ferguson's got Harry Connick Jr. and Catherine Hahn.
Fallon's got Dana Carvey, Demi Lovato, Lovato, tomato, tomato. Who gives a damn? Clap your hands and say, yeah, is the music on that show. There you go.
Those are your late night talk shows. So we're going to take a break. We come back. We've got your dumb ass of the day.

You listen. No, you listen. You're listening to The Daily Blender with Jeffrey O'Brien. Now listen to me.
Alright, ten minutes. That's what we've got left here. Ten minutes. Can we do it?
Can we make it? I don't know. I'll take another break and hear about this poolside beatdown. Inside story.
Can't say it on the air, but so far it started out promising. I love leaving you hanging. I'd love telling you. Oh, I've got to tell you something.
Did the guy, did he get beat the hell up? I don't know about beat the hell up, but there was a little bit of a... Oh, I'm sorry. Yeah, we can't say.
Sorry. That's somebody who desperately probably needs the beatdown. Sorry, got one. And we're happy about it.
So, I know it's wrong, but if you knew the guy, you'd be on our side. So, anyways, okay. First off, let me just tell you about something on our Daily Blender fan site. There is a cool video.
It's about what does it feel like to fly over planet Earth. They did a time, you know, capture, a time-lapse video. The space station flying over the Earth. And it's really awesome.
And I didn't realize you could see city lights. So it's like the city lights on Earth look like the Earth is on fire. That is how much light and energy we're spending. But still, it's kind of cool to watch.
So that video is there. Also, a link is up for Pam's bloggy website of the day. But I watched that video. And when the sun comes up, it's just like, it's really cool.
Does it make the noise? In fact, there's no audio on the video, which I thought at least some sort of music would have been good. Yeah, but then it's safe to watch at work. That's a good point.
Yeah. And nobody knows what you're up to. Okay, time for another episode of Nice Try, Chachi. Yay.
Only this one is, oops, sorry. Nice try, Chachi. Here's what happened. 20-year-old Stafford Hugh Ferris from Clover, South Carolina.
People in the South have a lot of damn names. Yeah. They use a lot of names. Hispanic people will have like four, maybe five names.
But they don't use them all. You know what I mean? Unless they're doing like a weather report. My name is Jorge Carman.
I'm from El Salvador. Wow. Yeah. Okay, you got a point there.
I guess they're trying to be formal. But most times you're like, oh, hey, what's going on, Gabriel? You know? Hey, they don't say, my name is Gabriel Martinez.
They don't say, Gabriel, all this stuff. You know, they don't do that. In the South, the rednecks are like, my name is Stafford Hugh Ferris. I am from Clover, South Carolina.
I have an extensive collection of old rims in my backyard. Old rims. I don't know what they go to. Found them on the side of the road.
I'm thinking someday I'm going to make something out of it. I don't know. Thanks for crawling up out of the gene pool. And they're usually a third.
Stafford Clover Washington. Leopard. I'm actually the third, but my daddy was a second. He was just Ned.
And my grandpa was the second. We're not sure where the first came from. We think my grandpa just liked to say the second because he didn't know for sure who his daddy was. And so, well, we're not sure either.
We go on to ancestry.com and any time we put in our family name, the whole damn site shuts down. It's confused. We're all called Junior. It's not good.
My daddy wasn't so good at counting. He wasn't good at counting or wrapping things up. I'm in birthday presents, you perverts. Anyway, so here comes old Clover.
I'm sorry, Stafford. And he's like, hey, lookie here, my garage. I got me a big three-foot-long rubber snake. I'm going to have me some fun with it.
So he tied some fishing line to it, threw the snake in the middle of Highway 55. The plan was pull the string from a nearby hill and make it look like there's a snake trying to cross the road and laugh at the people who go, oh, my gosh, a snake. Well, what he didn't anticipate was a teenage girl seeing the snake in the road. She slammed on the brakes hard on her Honda.
She avoided hitting it. For a snake. Yep. But the guy in the Dodge pickup behind her didn't stop quite as quick.
Slammed in the back of her car. The car gets $8,000 worth of damage. The girl's Honda is, of course, just gone. Yeah.
Her car had to be towed away. Both drivers were examined by emergency personnel. Nobody was killed or really seriously hurt. But Stafford, of course, this shows you more of his intelligence.
He confessed immediately. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I was just joking there with the snake and the fishing line.
I didn't mean for nobody to get hurt. They were like, well, I'll tell you what. We're charging you now with putting a foreign substance on the highway with malice. And you'll be in court January.
Thank you very much. At least he was sorry about it. You know, I hope the driver of the truck got a ticket for tailgating because he obviously didn't have time to stop. Well, absolutely.
The guy will get the ticket. But now, since there's charges against him for causing the thing, all that stuff is going to come out. The insurance companies, everybody's coming after this guy. So, oops.
Nice try, Chachi. We appreciate a good practical joke, but not one that can really kill everybody. Right. How about just doing it on a sidewalk or something?
Yeah, sidewalk. Yeah. Don't do stuff on the road. Those people.
Well, what do you know, Stafford? Yeah. Junior. Junior.
All right. Now it's time. If you think that should be the dumbass of the day. But no, I got a better one.
Let's dig in. Facebook addiction fights crime, is the headline on this one. Last week, 22-year-old Juan Gonzalez Jr. Junior?
You got a little combo. I did not see that coming. Of Greeley, Colorado, broke into a woman's house around 3 a.m., stole her laptop, some jewelry, her cell phone. A few hours later, the victim got a Facebook friend request from someone she didn't know, a guy by the name of Deuce Gonzalez, which turns out is Juan's nickname.
You know, Junior, Deuce. So, yeah, that's right. Guy steals her cell phone, figures out her name, apparently couldn't resist the impulse to friend her. He also started texting one of her friends.
Oh, boy. With her phone. Brilliant. Police were easily able to use those texts and the Facebook request to locate Juan, and he was arrested for burglary and theft.
He is your dumbass of the day. He's a smart one. That is amazing. Yeah, not only did he text the friend, he did it from her phone.
Wow. Brilliant. I'm sure there's a touch of redneck in him. If he's got the junior.
Could be. Could be. He's got a redneck in the woodpile, as they say. So, all right, speaking of the text, it's one thing when teenagers say they prefer text messages to phone calls, but, you know, they're teenagers, so, you know, they're supposed to say things like that.
But now, in a bad sign for the future of actual phone calls, us more older, mature adults, well, we're saying it too. I actually find it useful for business. A quick text message for business, or even personal life, where you just have one little thing you want to say. You don't need a whole, hi, how are you?
Oh, yeah, the whole conversation, you know. It's good to just get brief little messages, but I'll tell you what, there is nothing better than an old-fashioned phone call sometimes, you know? Especially when you're getting to know someone. Well, even if you do know somebody, it's a matter of inflection.
You know, there's so many times you say one thing and it's taken so wrong that, you know, you have to like, okay, calm down. Okay, just so you know, I didn't mean it that way. You have to, like, put an end to it. Yes.
And you can't break a date by text, either. I know, I learned that the hard way. Wow, man. I just wanted to make sure you knew.
Never, nobody ever got so angry at me than that. Well, anyway, so a new study by the Pew Research Center, they've got an internet and American Life project. 31% of adults, damn near 1 in 3, say they'd rather receive a text than a phone call in every situation. I'd rather receive a text than get a voicemail any day.
Yeah, I hate getting voicemails. I hate voicemails, except the ones from Morris. The voicemail thing is cool. I got something called Umail, where instead of, you know, dialing up a phone number and getting it, it's downloaded to my phone, and all my voicemail is accessible in email.
So I can grab the sound file and email it to somebody. Hey, I got this message. You might want to hear it. Email them a file.
Your voicemail creeps me out because it knows my name. I know, everybody tells me that. I actually had a girl like, who the hell is that girl on your message machine? Who?
Is that your new girlfriend? Who is that on your message machine? Oh, because it's a woman's voice. Yeah, I'm like, it's a computer voice, you psycho.
Buh-bye. Exactly. And, yeah, it's a caller ID function. So if you call and your name is available when you do that, it's like, hello, Morris.
If it doesn't know you, it just says, Jeffrey is too busy for you. The first time I heard it, I thought it was just you having a good time. I was like, wow, that's an impressive female voice Jeffrey's doing. I am not above it.
But, no, that is not me. So, yeah, it looks like text and information is going to overtake this voice on the phone. I think there's always going to be a need for voice on the phone because we're always going to have to clear up those misunderstandings. Oh, yeah.
Wait, you don't understand. That's not what I meant. We're going to be going to video phones soon. You see all that technology.
All right, buddy, that's it for this hour of the Daily Blender. More on the way. More on the way. NBC 1260 is KBZ, Apache Junction
