Bourbonnais Trustees hear tax levy proposalBourbonnais trustees last night took the first steps toward levying taxes for the Village for the new fiscal year. Village Finance Director Tara Latz.  Latz credited increased property values for the decrease in taxing rates and reminded Village residents that Village taxes amount to about five percent of a homeowners total tax bill. Trustees heard the first reading of the ordinance last night. There'll be a public hearing before the December 15th meeting where trustees will finally vote on the ordinance. Bourbonnais Police preview program to help first respondersDuring last night's Bourbonnais Village Board meeting, trustees heard a presentation from the Police Department about a program they hope to institute early in the new year.  Bourbonnais Police Commander Brent Barrie said the first of it's kind program in Kankakee County would allow families with someone in the house with special needs to register with the Village so first responders would have prior knowledge of that need before arriving at their home for any type of incident.  In a press release Bourbonnais Police noted the program would be particularly helpful for homes in the village with someone that is uncommunicative or someone with dementia. Commander Barrie hopes to have the program up and running in early 2026. Rural Crown Point teen found in Louisiana The Lake County Indiana Sheriff's Department says a missing 14-year-old from unincorporated Crown Point has been found. In a Facebook post, Deputies say they were notified November 23rd of the missing teen, but were unable to find them after an extensive search. The post goes on to say Monday evening they were told law enforcement near Baton Rouge Louisiana had located the teen and they were alive. Lake County Indiana authorities continue to investigate the child's disappearance.Pre-Trial release denied for Freeport man who threatened State SenatorA Chicago city employee accused of threatening a Republican state Senator from Freeport will remain in custody.  Joseph Haggerty was denied release from the Stephenson County Jail yesterday ahead of his trial.  State police say Senator Andrew Chesney contacted authorities in September after receiving threats from Haggerty, who faces two counts of Threating a Public Official.  The threats followed Chesney's critical comments about Governor Pritzker.State to honor Pearl Harbor remembrance dayIllinois is honoring Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day this weekend.  State and U.S. flags will be flown at half staff on Sunday to remember the heroes who died in the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941.  It is also in tribute to all the service members who sacrificed for the preservation of our rights and freedoms.Have a news tip to share?
