Tunnel Under Border Exposed | US News

A 29-year-old man, Luis Carlos Davalos-Lopez, has pleaded guilty to helping a Mexican cartel dig a secret tunnel under the U.S.-Mexico border to smuggle people into Texas—each paying over $30,000. The FBI uncovered the operation in January 2025, revealing a sophisticated network tied to the cartel designated as a foreign terrorist organization. Davalos-Lopez faces up to 10 years; two others have also admitted guilt—facilitating payments and weapons trafficking. This case underscores how cartels exploit border vulnerabilities, requiring federal agencies to work together to dismantle such complex smuggling rings.
