Tura Arutura - Part 1

Tura Arutura is a Zimbabwean/Irish national who has lived in Ireland for nearly 30 years. As an accomplished Communicator, multi-discipline performing artist, social activist and dance teacher Tura has been an active proponent of cultural and cross-cultural activities in Ireland, the UK, Europe and the United States. Possibly, uniquely, he is a Gaelic speaker, singer songwriter, poet, dancer, choreographer with a passion for all aspects of mystic and healing arts. Tura has immersed himself in Gaelic culture, poetry, music and dance. Also a presenter on BBC Northern Ireland, Tura is no stranger to RTE and International News, performing or as an activist on issues such as equity, equality for Black Live Matter, artists and cultural platforms. In 2002 he won the Broadcasting Diversity Award for Different Worlds, a magazine programme featuring multi-cultural and social issues. In 2013 Steip le Tura a documentary about Cuthbert learning the ancient dance of Ireland was nominated for a Celtic Media Award. In 1994 he founded the African Cultural Centre (NIACC) for the improvement of African diaspora living in Northern Ireland. Tura has played an active in the Peace and Reconciliation process involving Northern Ireland Cross Community. He was a founder member of the Northern Ireland Council for Ethnic Minorities in 1997. In 2002 he was awarded Top 40 Under 40 in Ireland followed, early in 2018, following an invitation by Culture Ireland and Comhaltas Tura performed in England in his show promoting Irish culture alongside his Africa diaspora heritage. Further recognition of his communication, mediation and reconciliation skills came with a request to speak and dance at the Republic of Irelands Croke Park in front of His Holiness Pope Francis in August 2018.
