Turn away from sin: Spend 5 with Jesus: March 3, 2023

Do I indeed derive any pleasure from the death of the wicked? says the Lord GOD.  Do I not rather rejoice when he turns from his evil way that he may live? I am not going to lie. There are times where I wonder if I am really serious about repentance and conversion. It is often the case I confess the same sins over and over again. Do I really have the desire to turn away from sin? I think I do. But what is more important, does God have the desire to forgive? What seems most important is to recognize that God is kind, merciful and loving. And more than anything else, God wants us to be saved. Just as it is the case that God did not need to create, God does not need to save either. It is rather, that God wants to create, wants to forgive, and even for the same reason. God is love. It is not that God loves, but rather that God is love. So when God creates, it is because God is love. And his desire for us to be saved comes from the fact that God is love. And so we need to remember this when we sin. Even though it may feel like we are making no progress in the moral life, we need to remember that it is God who pours out the grace to help us to turn away from sin. It is God who is the one who gives us the ability to turn away from sin. So do not hesitate to go to confession, even if you are feeling like you are always confessing the same sins over and over again. For God does not rejoice in your death, but in your life.
