It tends to crowd in—a sudden flood of racing thoughts, heavy questions, and the quiet weight of uncertainty. The psalmist doesn't pretend these moments don't happen. The phrase "when anxiety was great within me" acknowledges a real, overwhelming human experience. Faith doesn't make us immune to worry, but it ensures we never have to carry it alone. Notice the pivot in the second half of the verse: "your consolation brought me joy." Notice what changes here. The psalmist isn't delivered by their own strength, clever planning, or willpower. Relief comes from divine consolation—the steady, gentle presence of God stepping into the noise. His comfort doesn't always instantly remove the difficult circumstance, but it transforms how we carry it. Where anxiety suffocates, God's peace expands our capacity to breathe. It replaces internal chaos with a grounded, deep-seated joy that circumstances cannot steal.
