Turning Your Life Experiences Into Art With Soul Portraits Creator Devorah Brinkerhoff

from Version 1 · host Waverly Colville

Devorah Brinckerhoff is a mixed media artist and transformational guide with over 30 years of experience who developed Soul Portraits - an innovative healing methodology that uses creativity to transform trauma into empowerment. RISD-trained and formerly gallery-represented, her life took an unexpected turn when protecting her children from sexual abuse led to complete family estrangement overnight. This crisis became the catalyst for discovering that creativity could fundamentally shift how we relate to our most difficult experiences. Her Soul Portrait process involves physically working with actual personal materials - old letters, photos, documents - allowing people to access embodied wisdom their minds can't reach. Now working from her Oregon studio, she leads workshops (in person and virtual), guides individuals to tap into and deepen their creative practice (virtual) and completes Soul Portrait commissions (virtual).   In this episode, we discuss what a SoulPortrait is, how people can use a Soul Portrait to work through trauma and other types of life experiences, the materials from one’s life that are used in Soul Portraits, why loss and grief come in many forms, how she taps into others’ experiences to create Soul Portraits for them, guiding others through their experiences and lessons, community building through art, and more.    Follow Devorah on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/devorahbrinckerhoff/  Visit Soul Portraits’ website: https://soulportrait.art/  Subscribe to Version 1's substack: version1podcast.substack.com   Follow Version 1 on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/version1podcast/  Support the show: https://buymeacoffee.com/waverlycolville

Barnum. Some laws teach the need for prudence (“Law 1: Never Outshine the Master”), others teach the value of confidence (“Law 28: Enter Action with Boldness”), and many recommend absolute self-preservation (“Law 15: Crush Your Enemy Totally”). Every law, though, has one thing in common: an interest in t Tao Te Ching by Laozi (Author), Stephen Mitchell (Full Audiobook) Laozi Lao-tzu's Tao Te Ching, or Book of the Way, is the classic manual on the art of living, and one of the wonders of the world. In eighty-one brief chapters, the Tao Te Ching looks at the basic predicament of being alive and gives advice that imparts balance and perspective, a serene and generous spirit. This book is about wisdom in action. It teaches how to work for the good with the effortless skill that comes from being in accord with the Tao (the basic principle of the universe) and applies equally to good government and sexual love; to child rearing, business, and ecology.Stephen Mitchell's bestselling version has been widely acclaimed as a gift to contemporary culture.
