Hello, welcome back to another episode of Broken Record Mind Me's Ellie. I'm your host and today we are talking about the turnover concert. So turnover is a band that came to Seattle this past Wednesday and I was very, very lucky enough to be able to get a media pass for them and I got to go to the concert. It was super fun.
It was super cool. They were great. And I was only allowed to stay for the first four songs. Which was kind of sad because I wanted to see more.
But it's okay. I got the gist of what they were and who they are and that was so impressive in the music. And I want to talk about it. So they had two openers.
One of them was a band and the band's name is Horse Jumper of Love and they were great. I'll play a couple of their songs now. Yeah. So as you can tell by those three little clubs I played, they're very much like a soft rock, the rock.
They were very mellow and there wasn't a lot of words in their songs which I thought was interesting or not that I could hear it was very loud. But their songs are like they focused mainly on the instruments which I really thought was cool. It was super funny. The way they were set up it was it was three people.
It was a lead singer and then the guitarist to his right and then behind both of them was the drummer and they stayed in that position the whole time and it was totally like a triangle and I thought it was a funny thing ever because the drummer always faced forward. The lead singer always faced his right and then the guitarist always faced his left. It was like a thing ever changed directions. They never looked the other way.
I thought it was a funny thing because it was very much like a, I feel like it was like when little kids are like told like you need to freeze like stay there freeze and then they'd take that literally and like don't move their head or anything. That's what I thought was really funny but they were great. They were very talented. There was the second openers name.
It's called Yumi Zoma. I'm not sure if I'm pronouncing that right. But she was incredible. She was very like mystical and psychedelic.
Yeah. I want to say like that's more like what her music sounds like. She was really impressive. She was very sweet and smiley and I like watching her perform.
So I'll play a couple of the first songs and then talk to you after. Okay. Okay. So as you can tell she is so normal so to her music is, it was a lot more up here like happier than the other band but that's okay because you got to get the variety.
You know, it was nice. It was cool to hear. It was interesting to think about how they were both picked for turnovers. Openers because I feel like some people pick like two pop stars or two slower artists too in the artists.
You know, like they're usually of the same general category but these people really weren't. And I thought that was interesting. There was very cool. She's also from New Zealand which I was the coolest thing ever because I love New Zealand and I watched really a one-wheel with my whole heart and I'm just that she's from.
And I thought it was so fun. But yeah, moving on to the main act of the show, the whole reason why we were here at school where they had a great performance of what I saw. Something I thought was really interesting was that there was like very minimal lighting. Usually when you go to concerts like lighting is a whole spectacle.
There's colored lights, like spotlights. There's lights that light up the crowd like it's usually like a whole show. But turnover, it was really just lights that shines on the backs of the people and then it was a projector. Like their faces were being lit up by a projector that was projecting something on the screen behind them.
And I thought that was the coolest thing ever. I thought that was so smart. It was insane because like other faces would look all cool. It was weird.
It was weird but it was smart and I'm interested that like no one else that I've seen had done that before because I feel like that's so cool and I can open you up to so many different things. It was so cool. So I'm going to play a couple turnover songs and then I will get back and talk to you. They're so good.
They kind of remind me of like Tain and Paula mixed with the beach boys which is kind of really random. But like if you think of like the beach boys' harmonies with kind of like Tain and Paula's like vibe, like you kind of see it right. I don't know. I might just be a little bit crazy but they were really good.
I really enjoyed their concert. It was insane. It was an afternoon theater which is right by a local college campus in Mercy Washington and it was so fun. It was so cool.
There was a lot of people there. Like I hadn't meant that concert any in a while and it was also the day before Thanksgiving. And so I kind of forgot like how many people go to concerts. I hadn't meant that small before and so I wasn't expecting like it was going to be empty as it could be full.
And so it was the day before. People are probably out of town. So like what if I'm the only person there? I mean it was a good one.
But it was so cool. It was so fun. When I was waiting for turnover to come on I was sitting on a bench just outside of like the seeding area. Like if you ever been into the Neptune the like four parties like you walk in and then you're in like a hallway and then there's a door that you go in and you're like at the bar and then you walk past the bar and then you're in like the pit area.
And so I was in the hallway and I was in a bench and there was two cops next to me and there was a lady who was working there who was checking coats. And so she someone stole her phone. Someone stole her phone. So she was talking to the copy about it and it was so it was such like entertaining story to listen to because she was like it had to be one of these three people.
Like she went off there couch. She was like one of these three people. She had my phone with this person and then she and then one of the people were working on people who were like we got her on the security camera and it was so funny and then they came back and then like I caught her up. You're going to go any help and she was like no we're fine.
And then like the lady who had the like security camera footage went into the crowd and then she came back and she was like this phone and the lady was like yes. And it was such an entertaining story. I was like oh my gosh I just got like free TV show for me. It was a good show.
It was great. I really recommend this on the music. They're very impressive. The concert was great.
Everyone there was really nice. I was kind of scared because I hadn't been to a small concert in a while and I also hadn't been with this demographic before. So it was a little like it's hoping for me please. I'm nice like promise but everyone was super nice.
They were very helpful and kind of super fun. So yeah. Thank you so much for listening to this episode about the turnover concert that happened on November 23rd, 2022 at an Neptune theater. It was so fun.
