Twilight Chapter 4

In which Bethanie, Lindsey, and Samantha discuss Chapter 4 of Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. Chapter 4 Summary: “Invitations” Bella dreams of Edward glowing with light but walking away into darkness. He vanishes, and she continues to glimpse him in her dreams. Over the next month, tension builds. Tyler tries to make amends, while Edward ignores her—his golden eyes growing darker. Bella watches him silently.Mike flirts openly and hints at wanting Bella to ask him to the dance. She lies about weekend plans, catching Edward’s curious gaze. Later, Edward breaks his silence to apologize, then says they shouldn’t be friends. Hurt, Bella leaves, but he suddenly helps her after she trips, then walks away.Eric and Tyler also ask her to the dance—she declines. At home, she hears Mike accepted Jessica’s invite and urges Jessica to pair off the other guys. While cooking, Bella reflects on Edward’s words and concludes he’s letting her down gently.The next morning, Edward surprises her by offering a ride to Seattle. When she questions his change of heart, he admits avoiding her is difficult.
