Welcome to Antoin Peaks. It's the only Twin Peaks podcast where you're gonna hear two guys making that sound. It's the only Twin Peaks podcast, let's be real. Nobody's thought to do this before.
Wouldn't that be nice? You gotta imagine there's one called like the black podge and one called the white podge. I know of one called damn fine podcast, terror. That is so, I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
I just wouldn't name my mat. That's like the lowest hanging fruit imaginable. You gotta want more of yourself. You gotta go with it.
Antoin Peaks. Yeah, something. You're Twin Peaks podcast. You know, yeah.
I think about a beer commercial from 30 years ago. Right, hey, were you born within the last 30 years? Do you remember that? Do you, yeah.
Do you remember that? Beer commercial? Do you remember? Do you remember?
You remember the top culture when you were 12? So, Dan, Dan, Dan, Dan. Of course we're talking about Twin Peaks episode 14, season two, double play. Yes, yes, I think if there's one thing you can say for sure about this particular episode of television is that it's called double play and that it's episode 21.
It comes from season two. That's right. And the name of the show is Twin Peaks. Well it's episode 14 from season two.
Oh, you know what? Here's the thing. I've mentioned the fan wiki that I couldn't, one of the ones I can tell. They number them, they don't reset at the new season.
They call it 21. And this is also, I think the one that calls episode one episode three. That's right. So it's not even episodes one.
Jesus. Oh my God. I'm, it's an uphill battle. People, people know what I go through.
Every day, man. This is every day. All, all's my life. I have to fight.
Yeah, Dan, so I texted you about this yesterday. Kyle McLachlan's true crime podcast. Yep. So did you look into this at all?
Do you know what it's about? The Kyle McLachlan. The law. No, I didn't.
I have nothing to contribute. Like we said, it's an uphill battle. The podcast, so it's Kyle McLachlan and a friend of his. I guess they are interested in this story in particular.
Apparently, there is a town. I don't know what state it's in, but where Pablo Escobar was flying cocaine into this town of like 300 people. It's like a Twin Peaks where they're bringing all this cocaine to this small town and then distributing it from there. Now, I don't mean to be too cyclical here.
Well, Dan, Dan is known for not being cynical. Go on. I don't mean to be too cynical here, but what do you think the odds are that him and his quote unquote friend, who I'm sure happens to have a list of podcast production credits, just organically happen to like the story that mirrors the plot of a TV show, Kyle McLachlan is famous for starring on. What are the odds of that?
Slim to none yet. Listen, all right. I didn't come up with the idea. Kyle McLachlan.
He did a nice enough guy. I don't know. I watched his. He did one of those criteria in the closet videos on YouTube.
Seemed like a totally normal guy. What do you pick? What do you pick? Anything stand out to you?
Let me guess. Eight and a half. Everyone always picks eight and a half on those videos. No, no, no.
They're like, I love Fellini. Have you ever seen a Fellini? I don't think I've seen a Fellini. You got to dip your toes in.
I'm not saying it's bad. I'm not saying it feels like posturing when you go on the Criterion closet. You got to show and pick the smart guy movie. You got to pick Robocop five times.
What five times is Robocop? No, you got to dip your toes in that marinara, baby. All right. No, he picks Sex Elizant, Video Tape, The Manchurian Candidates, the movie Being There.
Have you ever seen Being There? I'm not. I'm not either. I've not.
But I'd like to. Maybe someday. I'd love to. Yeah, sounds like I have to watch Fellini first.
Yeah, you do have to watch it. You think I'll like it? Do I think I don't know if you would like eight and a half? I think you would probably like Lidolce Vita better.
If you're going to watch like a Fellini, like your first Fellini, Lidolce Vita is one of my favorites. Fellini. Well, eight and a half. That's the one that's kind of meta and autobiographical, right?
Yes, it's super meta and a bit autobiographical and whatever. And it's, you know, there's surrealist elements and whatnot. It's amazing. You know, great movie and everything.
I think Lidolce Vita is a little bit more kind of a. You don't have to be like a Fellini head to fully appreciate it. Yeah, I think it's a good entry point, you know? And it's like, um, so you could say eight and a half is like, to put it in terms are listeners, a core demo where I stand.
It's like his dark tower. What are you saying? Yeah. What's like what's Stephen King's the shining, right?
That's probably the most popular Shawshank, right? Lidolce Vita is like Carrie then, you know, still really great. And like a really good entry point, you know? OK, what is Fellini's deal?
Children of the Horn, urban harvest. Probably, uh, it's, uh, it's a Casanova. It's a big thing. And all and all of our Italian listeners are cracking the fuck up.
No, no fucking dumb. I am. And how, and how they're saying it's moto true. Yeah, that's what they're saying.
It's a multiple true. It's also true. Oh, Amara, Amara, chord. Amara, chord.
I'm not how you say it. I've never known. And it's a word I look at and I say, if I can't pronounce it, I'm not going to watch the movie. The only thing I really know about that movie because I'm a bit of a dirt bag.
And I haven't seen the movie is that there's just there's a woman with enormous tits that like she she grabs like this guy's head and like berries is head in her like giant. Like, I don't know, hot air. But this isn't this is an Italian. The math and that's not enough.
Yeah, it's rated the Italian version of G. Yeah, for gimzo. All right. From one visionary filmmaker to the next, we're talking about Twin Peaks, co-created by David Lynch, who's fully out.
He's like fully detached at this point. Yeah, no, he is fully top and into do. All right. So this episode 14, season two, right?
We have I know I've talked about in the past breaking season two up into three bits. This would this would be like the spiritual ending of season two B. We'll call it sets up like leaves it on a bit of a cliffhanger. At the end, we wrap up a couple things, you know, in plastic, right?
Pete did a long time ago. Yeah, a lot of setup and some other stuff happens. It's being a Pete because he gets a little run in this one, right? He has a big he's he's actually terrific in this episode.
I now having watched a race. Yes. Things have completely flipped for me where like I was watching a racer head and I was like, that's that's a young Pete Martell. And now I watch this I'm like, that's an old him.
Hey, what was this? No, Henry? It's a candy bar. This is sold my comb to buy a watch band.
Yeah. I am watching this episode after having watched the racer head. I couldn't help. I was like, man, that is the same guy.
That's it's fast. It really is. And, you know, 15 years later, it's 15 years. So he's that's a long 15 years.
It was a big 15 years. He's been he's been drinking this. I had a heavy, you know, he had a lot of issues with. Yeah.
But he was like 32 or 33, I want to say in a racer head. So he's like, it is that's a key. 14 years. Yeah.
Yeah. Absolutely. Absolutely. Jack Nance.
What a guy. A guy. He's great, man. I really I can't get over my love of Pete Martell.
He's 48 years old in this. So that's he is eight years older than me. He's like the difference in our age. So if it's like those like those logic problems that are like find the next number in the sequence, Dan, Rob Jack Nance.
Nance. Nance. Yes. So what did you want to do?
Do you want to go into the Pete stuff, the PeeD stuff? Sweetie Pee. We talked about sweetie PeeD or, you know what? You want we get to save it?
Because it does end. The episode does end kind of on not Pete, but you know, Pete's whole, like kind of seen there. The big reveal. Yeah.
Yeah. Let's save it. Let's take it from the top from the top. Well, let's let's get this out of the way Andy and Dick.
These two buffoons. Yeah. These two like Sunday, funny, comic strip characters. It's like it's going to be a little much, guys.
That says you you're over it. Yeah. I mean, I could do without this kind of silly, Billy business. I like the silly stuff that happens in Twin Peaks.
This is like you said, funny pages stuff. Yeah. This is like this is when not. This is when Graham Chapman dressed as a Bobby comes in and says to silly.
Exactly. Break it up. Break it up. This is like as you so inconsequential to everything else.
It's like the James storyline, which goes nowhere. You know what? Here's what I'll say. Speaking of like little kids with possible mystical powers.
What is that corn kid coming back? Corn kid, huh? Oh, the little David Lynch. Yeah.
You were like cute. You're like, watch this space. What what? And watch the space?
What? Yeah. Like it's like a thing people say when they're like, keep an eye on it. Oh, yeah.
Yeah. Yeah. You're like, this is very consequential. Well, yeah.
I mean, the cream corn is more consequential than that kid. But that kid does come back. The cream corn is more consequential than the corn kid. Correct.
The cream corn is consequential. Cream corn kid red leather, yellow leather. We should have done our one or two. Sorry.
Sorry, probably. But I'm sorry. We're doing them while recording, but yeah, we have to got to warm up the pipes. So first we corn then record Andy tells Lucy that they they need to talk.
They need to talk about Nikki and they they tell Lucy that they believe that little Nikki murdered his his parents, right? And Lucy is like, he's a child and he was even younger than he was six. Lucy being the voice of reason here being like, you guys are so bad at this. You know what though?
The truth is also stupid, though, because he had a much younger age also. Drank his parents from the twisted brain. Right. So the we got the backstory from Doc Hayward who fills them in and he's like, listen, dummies.
This is what happened. Little Nikki's mother was assaulted by a man in an alleyway. Found out that she was pregnant, decided to keep the child. She died in childbirth.
So that's when she died. He was later. He was adopted, right? As like a baby.
Yep. Yep. Loving by loving foster parents and then tragically there was a car accident which killed them and yeah, the detail is that Nikki. He pulled them from the six year old and he pulled the two parents from the racket and then they're like, and don't you know, don't you feel bad you too?
And they're just sobbing into. Yeah. That's dumb. Which for Andy, I mean, Andy cries once a day.
He's a big grider. But to see Dick doing anything but smiling breaks, my big, shitty smile. I just, he should never leave his face. You hate this.
You really don't think it's good that they're doing this. Whatever. No, I don't think it's good. I mean, most of all, I think it has just gone on too long.
You know, we've been. Yeah, I would agree with this little Nicky for the past like five episodes for it to turn out to be like, Oh, no, you guys are just wrong. I agree. I agree.
The issue isn't how long it's gone. And it's that more hasn't happened with it. Right. It's just it could have gone on longer.
Yeah, if something was happening with it, sure. Right. But how many times can it seem like he telekinetically dropped a car on Nick? So although they don't even really try to be the one thing.
Yeah. And that's like, that's enough for Dick to be like, this child is the devil. Yeah. And Andy's like, I will go along with anything that you say.
Yes. You're dressed so sharp. And fashion, huh? Great stuff.
And he's so loyal to a sharp dress. Oh, it's also all right. In this in this here episode, we get what's her name? Lana Milford.
We know Milford, right? She's not that way at all. All right. It's probably got five six.
So remember that. Yeah. Wasn't that long ago? I was saying exactly that long ago.
Not long at all. Yeah. So Lana is. Is she at the police station at this point?
Right. Yeah. Yeah. She's yeah.
She's with Jacoby. So Jacoby spent like a... They have to call it. It's like calling it's like, I figure out why this smoke show is so damn hot.
So and Jacoby explains that this woman is basically like so hot and has a working knowledge of all kinds of sexual techniques that most men can only dream of matching and whatever, right? But he basically is like, she is not cursed. She's a normal woman with a heightened libido. Nothing more.
She likes to bow down. Excuse us. Yeah. I do love it.
Now, if you'll excuse us, we're going bowling. Yes. That is so funny. Oh, what a good line.
Dr. Jacoby is married. I think that we should say that, but he's their relationship seems maybe a little relaxed. They're just they're just going bowling.
They're just going bowling. I'm sure there's no innuendos around like a big old ball like that. They stick your fingers in the hole. So at the police, so Jacoby and Lana are about to leave.
It was a Cooper Truman Andy Hawk. They're all in the room and they hear a scream and they walk, you know, they run out and mayor Milford is standing there with a shotgun. And he's like, he wants he wants Lana. Dad does want Lana.
Dad's enough. Enough's enough. That which killed my brother. I keep saying this.
That's a really good mayor. Thank you. Thank you. Yes.
Really good. You got the. I don't know how you do it. Like the old guy voice.
You have to push it. Yeah. Yeah, that's exactly it. Yeah, it's like you're so close to death every syllable is a right.
I heard is it Joe who's he's a voice actor. I want to say Joe DiMaggio, but that's not right. I'm a little too close. His last name, his last name is DiMaggio.
So I can't remember his first name, Bender. Yeah, Bender. Exactly. So John DiMaggio.
Yeah. He listened to an interview with him and he was talking about like how he does different voices or whatever. He was thought he said, Paul Giovanni, if you want to get Paul Giovanni, you have to try and swallow your chin. So the whole whole time.
So you're trying to literally like swallow your like your bottom jaw. It's just I love little techniques like that. I think that's so fun for voice actors to be like, all right, I have to like hold on. I have to turn my head to the right and cock it just this way and close this.
My favorite is on a related note, Billy West once explained Zoidberg. And you basically just like put your tongue over your front bottom teeth. Wow. That's great.
I don't know how you do syllables with that, but that's at least how you get the that's really good stuff. Yeah. So yeah, the mayor of Milford is out there. He's saying that he's going to kill this woman.
She killed his brother and all the cops. They have guns drawn on him and they're like, they're trying to deescalate and the mayor's not having it. He's like, no, I'm here to kill. And Cooper steps and he's like, sir, why don't you guys talk it out for a minute?
Just try talking. He's yeah, he's basically like you can shoot her. Yeah, if you still want to shoot. And he's like, you could always shoot later.
Talk first, right? And he he sends Lana and the mayor into the conference room, closes a door. Seven minutes. Seven minutes.
Yeah, yeah. They he waits for like 30 seconds and then everybody walks in and the mayor's face is just covered in lipstick kisses. And the mayor says, we're going to adopt a child. We've decided to adopt.
Lana is like, oh, he reminds me so much of Dougie. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, we're going to adopt the child.
It is funny. But so that's not too silly for you. No, it is still very silly. But also I don't.
So the whole Lana mayor kind of thing feels like it's much more of like I'm going to call it like a like a seasoning of the episode, you know, it is sort of like sprinkled in as just sort of like, that's kind of a silly thing and all the deputies that go gaga for this girl and whatever. Like where we I feel like we spent like time with Dick and Andy and, you know, they're a little like shenanigans, you know, it's a break into the adoption agency. They steal his file. Doc Hayward is to like sit them down and explain to them why they're fucking idiots.
That's a really good point. The whole Lana Milford saga all takes place within the sheriff's right. It's always like, oh, right. We don't have to go to a second location.
Like Lana's in the other room with a thing going on, like with a huge picture. Yeah, picture of milk and just everybody's got a boner. So, so boners, gross. What else happens in this episode?
Audrey and Bobby, they, you know, they, Audrey basically tells Bobby, he's like, she's like, listen, my dad has lost his mind. So if you want to get ahead in this business, you're going to have to start sucking up to me. Dr. Jacobi and Jerry, they, they go there, they're there at the Great Northern, right?
And yeah, the staging of this is very funny. It is. Ben is doing his thing, right? He's being the general.
Ben is being the general. Jacobi is like egging it all. He's up in like a, it's, but from in like a lifeguard chair, right? Like a tennis referee.
I mean, I assume that, you know, Ben has just stacked a bunch of things up and then put a chair on top of that as he is to do, but. But he is truly just like watching him like an animal in a terrarium or something. Yeah. And he starts, Ben starts giving like a speech, right?
And I think he sings a song. He's waving the Confederate flag. Jacobi is like singing along with him. They're not singing.
Yes. He's, which is, no, it's not as much as I love that song. It's not my favorite song. It's, it isn't, it's the one that's like, I wish I was in the land of God.
Yeah. This is also so like Jerry comes in and he's like, Ben, yeah, what do you do? And Jacobi is just like, no, no, no, no, no. Yeah.
No, no, let him do it. Don't call him that he prefers general. Yeah. It's like it's me, your brother.
He's like, he has no, your his brother. He thinks your general, whoever. So they're just like fully indulging. I like this breakdown.
Jacobi's whole thing is like not the only way out is through. Yeah. Yeah. I like that is.
So there's that whole bit. I think that's it with Ben, right? For this episode. Yeah.
Yeah. That's all we get of Audrey, Ben. We got Shelly and Leo. Yeah.
That happens a little bit later when Bobby comes home. I guess we can get into that. We have. So when we left off with poor Shelly, Shelly has really been through it with all of these men, these, you know what?
All of these boys. That's right. That is absolutely. Thank you.
Be if he boys, skinny boys, all boys, none of us. Yes. So Leo is has come out of his catatonic state and he is angry. He starts, you know, he's throwing shit.
He's throwing Shelly around, hits her a couple of times, you know. Meanwhile, Bobby comes walking up to the house. He goes open the door, the door is locked. He's like, Shelly, open the door.
Yeah. Shelly is like inability to get out of this half finished house. Yeah, I know. It does not, you know, not to victim-blame, but it does not reflect well on her.
First, she goes to open the door and the door is locked and she gives up. Yes. Then she grabs a knife to defend herself. Also, Leo is like sort of like pa-phasing in and out of his stuff.
There's more really for him. It's sort of just like a big open room, but he's like always hiding just outside of frame. Yeah, I mean, it's very dark in there. And we're supposed to believe that it's like pitch black and she can't see shit.
But yes. Yeah. She eventually like takes the knife and goes to stab it, like the like paint-tarp lining that's of the unfinished house, but can't get it cut open wide enough for her to slip out? I don't know.
But then, you know, she loses the knife. He like scares her, she loses the knife. He has an axe and he's got her corner and he lifts it up. He says goodbye wife.
Which, Dan, you loved that, right? It was so funny. I was like, as soon as he said it, I was like, oh, she's living. Yeah, shelly's going to live.
You can't say goodbye wife and then actually kill her. No, no, no. We can't get rid of Shelly. Shelly is too sweet.
Oh, God, she's going to die, isn't she? We can't get rid of Shelly. Oh, no. So Bobby, Bobby Briggs, he, Oh, no.
He hears the commotion, right? He, I couldn't say it. Try it. He goes, he like, he goes into the, through the cut in the plastic.
And before Leo can swing the axe down on Shelly, he grabs him. And they start like wrestling around. Leo gets the upper hand, but Shelly is able to grab the knife. And she like, she cuts Leo.
Doesn't kill him, but he like runs off. He does scurry like a rat into the woods. Into the night, into the woods. We'll catch up with him later.
Now that could be significant. The woods? There's also, there's also a play called into the woods. Oh, yeah.
Could be a reference to that. Leo plays one of the characters from that. Yeah. Please the witch.
I think you. I'm pretty sure you could have said like any fairy tale character. And they're in that. The big bad wolf.
I was trying to think of a. Yes. For cut than the big bad wolf, but I could not come up with one. Who else is in that?
Some bitch. Rapunzel. Oh, rumple still together. You got to, you got to still come in there?
No. No, you can't. How are you going to, how are you going to portray a man stomping his leg into the ground and ripping himself in half night after night? It'd be like a Spider-Man turn off the dark situation on that stage.
I wish I could have seen that Spider-Man production. That you wish you could have seen a man break his back. Well, not that, but have you seen that? It's a late night.
The letterman. Yeah. You bet. The sinister sex.
The sinister sex. Yeah. It's. It's so funny.
Yeah. It's abysmal. And it's really good. There's a worse one.
It's worse than that. There's a Bob Dylan jukebox music. Oh, fuck up. It's the worst thing ever.
I think we should take a break and come back and listen to it. All right. So we're going to take a break. We're going to go to Broadway and see this musical.
And when we return, we will just finish talking about this episode. If you want to keep listening, head on over to patreon.com slash kimmypod. Sign up for $5 a month. Yeah.
You sign up right now. You got a seven day free trial. And then you could listen to all the episodes you want for that seven days. And maybe you cancel at the end.
Maybe you don't. Maybe stick around. Maybe. I don't know.
Maybe you open a credit card just for this. Maybe you open a secret credit card that your spouse doesn't know about. Oh, don't worry, baby. We won't tell.
You don't say anything, baby. Come on. We're not going to tell, baby. Come on.
This is just between. This is our little secret. This means everything else. So we'll be right back.
We'll be right back. And then we're going to listen to Bob Dylan's jukebox musical.
