Welcome to another episode of a twin peaks. Oh, sorry. Should I? Sorry, should I match your energy?
No, no. It's a cool night here in Twin Peaks. Well, there's a cool night here in Lost Wages Nevada. Dougie Jones is still loitering.
Yeah. Yeah. This is a big, a lot of Dougie in this episode. A lot of Dougie.
Are you still on board with Dougie? Is it wearing thin on you? It was a lot this week. Yeah.
It was a lot this week. I, you know, I appreciate the downtime. I do think there is like a real balancing act here where there's like, like the Dougie stuff is how to put it. It's not as dense as the, as what happens in the back half of the episode.
No, you have to make up for it in volume to keep the scales balanced. Yes. Yeah, yeah. No, the Dougie stuff is like, you know, there's so much going on elsewhere outside of Lost Wages Nevada.
You know, you got a murder case in South Dakota. You got Mr. C in jail. You got our FBI agents trying to figure out what the hell is going on, all of these things, right?
And then, you know, at the Sheriff's Station, what's going on with Richard Horan and his whole fucking thing? And then like all of that stuff is like moving and like, all right, all right. Here we go. OK.
And then, you know, the Dougie stuff does kind of grind things to a little bit of a halt. A little bit. You could argue that there is a sort of tension there, right? Like all of these, all these plot lines are developing.
And Cooper is still out of commission for all of this. It's like things are moving fast. And this is slow. He's slow.
He's slow. He's also slowly making improvements, I would say. Oh, you think so? He used a pencil today.
He used a pencil. He used a pencil. He had like a few words strung together at one point. Yeah.
Yeah. Jay gives two rides. Jay gives two rides. Come on.
That's good. That is good. That got a laugh for me. Yeah.
If Cooper would speak, do you agree that he'd sound like he could be in a Cali swag district? What is that? I don't know what that is. You don't know Cali swag district?
No. Why, that's the hip hop group that popularized the song, Teach Me How to Dougie. Oh, of course, of course. Yeah.
He'd be saying that to Janie E. Yeah, he would. He would be over the moon to learn how to Dougie from Janie E. Yeah.
Yeah. So Dougie, heavy episode here. Get some work done, this guy. When we last left Dougie, he was just sort of milling around outside the office.
And that's where we pick up this week, too. He is still there. It's right after. And that security guard is like, Hey, man, you can't, I already told you, you can't lute around here.
Yeah. I think it's been about a half hour since the last episode ended and he hasn't moved at all. Yeah. He's just clutching his case files for dear life.
Case files. Case files. He's a bit of a new shoes, isn't he? He's a little bit of an issues.
So eventually that is the security guard or sheriff's deputy or something. I thought he was some sort of security. Maybe he's like a deputy or something. Yeah.
I thought he was security until he took Dougie home with like seemingly real police guy. But Dougie's also trying to touch his badge a lot, something familiar about that bad. Yeah. Case files a badge.
Hmm. Hmm. Maybe picking up on these things. Yes.
Maybe. Maybe. Right. No, well, that boy ain't right.
When he gets home, Janie E is just so mad. Dougie, she's mad at him for kind of something else. But she's like, oh, Doug, your car. Where is your car, by the way?
Does that kind of thing? Oh, she doesn't get mad just yet. She has to wait and she opens the envelope. I forgot.
Yeah. She tells Dougie to go say good night to Sonny Jim. He's been waiting for you. So Dougie takes his bag of plain miss Vicki's chips.
Yep. He takes them upstairs and sits down on Sonny Jim's bed. And yeah, it's just sort of Dougie interacting with a child. We get a, well, first he puts a chip down on Sonny Jim's blanket to share.
That's his generous spirit. Sonny Jim, he's like dead. Yeah. Can I keep my cowboy light?
Can I keep my cowboy light on? And Dougie says nothing, of course. So Sonny Jim, it's a clap light and claps it on. And here we find Dougie has met his match in the old boy.
Yeah. And they just take turns clapping that light on and off. And Sonny Jim is loving it. He's having a fun time.
He loves this version of his dad. He does. Yeah. When the cops were dropping off Dougie, there was also an envelope on the doorstep, handed it to Janie and then while Dougie's been upstairs, Janie opens up the envelope and she gets so mad.
Dougie, you get down here right now. Oh, Dougie's in big trouble. Oh, boy. He's in the dog house.
Those two fellas who blew up his car. Right? It was them taking pictures or somebody else? It's somebody else.
Oh, right. It's the bookies or whatever. Yeah. Yeah.
So Dougie was photographed with Jade who, as we noted, gives two rights. Give two rights. Give two rights. Yeah.
Which, if you're Janie, that's the last thing you want to hear. Yeah. I empathize with her. Sure.
Sure. She is mad, but she has taken it all pretty well, pretty in stride here. Where she's yelling at Dougie. I'm like, who is this?
And then he says, Jade, who is Jade? And he's smiling because he recognizes something in the world. Right. Oh, Jade.
Yeah. Janie is also angry because Dougie was supposed to call these people that he owes money and he didn't do it because he can't. He can't. He can't.
He can't do anything. Yeah. So Janie's pissed about that. She's pissed about the pictures, you know, Dougie, you know, hiring a sex worker, et cetera.
And then the phone rings and Janie's like, are you going to get that? And then she ends up picking up the phone. And it's the, these bookies, black mailers, whatever. They're like, did you get the envelope?
And Janie's like, yes. And then she sets up like this, you know, sets up an appointment to meet with these guys. Do you know this park on such and such street meet me there at noon 30 tomorrow? Yeah, noon 30, huh?
Yeah. Really saw that coming. Yeah. So is that a regional thing or just a little quirk?
I've never heard that before. Positively lynching in turn of phrase. Positively positive. Wow.
What a positive, positive lynching turn of phrase. The three things we say collapsing in on themselves. Speaking of collapsing in on itself, I just rewatched Southland Tails. You did it.
I did it. We talked about how Southland Tails is do for a rewatch. Reevaluation on this very program. Man.
I watch the the can cut or con. And it's I mean, can cut. Who are you? Peter Sarsgard in Garden State.
These knives don't cut cans though. Yeah. Peter Sarsgard in state. Also.
Yeah. Could have trimmed two seconds off this episode by not saying that. Was I telling? Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah. So watch the can cut, which is like, I don't know, 20 or 30 years, so minutes. I mean, it's just as sort of confounding, right?
But I don't know. It feels like one of those movies, the more you watch it, the more it makes sense. And also maybe the more like the better it is. Obviously, like if it makes more sense to you, then maybe you connect with it a bit more.
But also like, yeah, it was a game like like, oh five, you know, it's set in oh eight and it's this full on police state where like, you know, surveil everybody's being surveilled. Porn stars are making reality TV shows. Things that feel like present day. Yeah.
You know what though? What's up? We can we can agree that Southland tales is kind of good and kind of prescient. But we can never ever let Richard Kelly find out or he'll make more stuff.
Well, that I mean, Southland tales really broke him. He made Donnie Darko Southland tales and The Box. And yeah, The Box is like a Richard Mathison short story, right? That they just expanded out in two and a half or whatever.
Yeah, I like that they're like, you can direct again, but we're going to let someone else handle the script. Yeah. Yeah. It's it's so it's very basic.
Yeah. What if there was a box? Yeah. Mysterious man says he comes to your house and says, here's a box with a button.
If you press this button, you will receive a little fart sound to the joke box. You'll get a million dollars, but somebody that you don't know will die. And it's a smash that button. Yeah.
I'm using both hands to smash it faster. Get more millions of dollars, get more millions and maybe get rid of some people, you know? Bye bye. Bye bye.
And it's like people die every day. Yeah. It's this huge conundrum for so Cameron Diaz and James Marsden. Now, like, do we press the button?
Do we not press the button? All of a sudden. You should each press the button and double your winnings. Right.
Everybody should press the button. All right. I think this is a no brainer, honestly. I don't think it's a good enough.
It's like a trolley problem with there's a person tied to each track, but one person has a million dollars. Right. Yeah. I got it.
Yeah. I think I do it. Well, Dan, what's the worst that could happen? Spoilers for the box.
But I think Cameron Diaz ends up pushing the button and, you know, eventually whatever James Marsden dies, he is the one who's killed. And then is the lesson that you can never truly know anyone. That's it. Wait, is it really?
And that sucks. That's cheating. It should have killed the guy with the box. The guy who brought the box.
I know. Who? I think it's Franklin Jellis, the guy who brings the box. And yeah.
Who? Skeletor. Skeletor, you know, got fired off of the fall of the house of Usher, Mike Flanagan joint. Is that right?
Was he a bad guy? Yeah. I mean, he, I guess there was like, there may have been like a sex scene at some point and he got a little too handsy and he wasn't even in it. Yeah.
He was off camera. I've got a couple ideas. Let me try something here. I think they had an intimacy coordinator and he was like, you know, I coordinate my own intimacy.
Yeah, he's like, I'm old school, baby. Yeah. I just, I just go with it. You know, whatever happens happens.
Wow. And nobody was cool with that. And you know what? I, I, that man is unfit to lead the Gorgonites.
Absolutely. Shame on him. Shame on him. And then he was replaced with Bruce Greenwood, who is a gentleman and kept his hands to himself.
There we go. Yeah. And you know what? It's like, that's got a sting as like a Flanagan collaborator, right?
It's like, Frank Langella gets your part and then my flange shows up hat in hand. Well, well, well, what happened with old Horndog Langella? Yeah. Finally realized you need a consummate professional.
Oh man. That's Bruce going to dream with just knowing the Franklin Jellies. I told you, man, I told you Franklin, you can't. You say you're watched to it.
Yeah. Yeah. I mean, there were like, they were like before they fired him. They're like, what if we got more intimacy coordinates?
Like, I guess to handle them like an animal. Yeah. So Skeletor's out. Greenwood's in.
So that would be, we should do like a, you know, when people do like the trends list, they like at the end of the year, they'll be like, what's out for the upcoming year and what's in. Yeah. Skeletor's out. Yeah.
Green, the hot new thing is the hot new thing is actor Bruce Greenwood. Yeah. And let me tell you also, if they were to make another he-man live action movie, you know, they could do a lot worse than Bruce Greenwood as Skeletor. I'll tell you that.
It's true. It's true. I bet he would fucking kick the shit out of the human in that movie. Skeletor wins because he does two good at job.
Yeah. Wow. It's a meritocracy. I didn't know that's how it even worked.
I thought they wrote them in advance. I mean, we should watch the, the Masters of the Universe. Yeah. Wow.
Ken and films keep coming up on this program. I do. Yeah. Twice now.
Yeah. I don't know if I've even seen like a Ken in film. I'm sure you have. I'm sure you have.
There's so many of them. Yeah. They're everywhere. They're fucking everywhere.
So Twin Peaks, the return. Twin Peaks the return. Dougie has, oh, Janie, you know, she sets up the whole thing with the Black Mailers or whatever. And she also sees the stack of case files and she's like, what is that work?
Because you better get it started right now because you cannot afford to lose your job right now, Dougie. So Dougie's about to, well, Dougie's sitting there. Who shows up, but Mike? A little mic on the floor.
A little mic on the floor. This has happened before. Yeah. He shows up, starts waving.
It's like, hey, all right. Hey, he's like, he says, don't die. You have to wake up. Wake up.
Don't die. Don't die. Don't die. Good advice.
I don't know. Thanks for anyone listening out there, actually. Yeah, guys, please wake up. Don't die.
Like and subscribe. Right. So Dougie gets to work. And as has been the case, he's getting interdimensional help with his daily tasks.
Yes. First at the casino, he saw little glimmers of the frickin black lodge or whatever. Yeah. That's how you want a bunch of money.
Yep. He saw a little light on Anthony Sinclair, his coworker at the insurance company. Yep. That's how he knew he was lying.
Yep. Size more. Size more. Now, looking at these insurance claims or whatever, he sees that same light.
Yep. He sees it in a few spots. He sees it on Anthony Sinclair's name. And he sees it on the names of the detectives who wrote the police report, those violent with the insurance claim.
Hmm. So Dougie takes a pencil and just starts drawing lines, draws like, or appears to be a ladder and maybe some steps. Yep. He like scribbling it, holding it like a baby, hold a crayon.
Yeah, yeah. I like that. Like, sorry, as another point of reference, I might also be helpful. Like how Ike the Spike Statler holds his, the Spike.
That's true. I almost forgot about it. No, I like how the pencil is not sharp. It's actually like been, it's like rounded off, you know, when a pencil has been, it should be sharpened at this point, but he's, you know, Dougie's not going to do that.
And it's just like, it's making that sort of like squeaky. Yeah. I was going to say, it's like at that point where it kind of sticks to the paper. Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah. And, you know, it just looks like he's doodling on these very important documents, right? Meanwhile, I'll swear, somewhere, somewhere else.
Do we know where else at Max Von's bar? Yeah, I don't know where Max Von's is. It's in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, I'll quote you the Wikipedia. Well, great.
So Albert goes back to Philly, goes to Max Von's bar. First, it's raining. He's on the phone with, with Gordon Cole and, and you know, it's raining. It's like, I think Albert says it's 35 degrees out.
Cole is on the other end. He's like, Albert, I'll be thinking of you as I enjoy this full bodied bordeaux. And Albert is quite annoyed. He says, fuck Jean Kelly, motherfucker, because he hates the rain.
And we know he loves it. Yeah. Yeah. So he goes into this bar.
Yes. And we see a lady. There's a lady sitting at bar like, would you consider that like a Bob haircut? No, I don't know.
I don't know. I don't know what any haircuts are called. I know what a Prince Valiant looks like. Oh, of course.
The old Pete Rose special. So there's a woman there with like bleach blonde hair down like not quite to her shoulders, but past like her chin. It was a very stark haircut, very, very sharp. Yes.
And, and Albert says, Diane, Diane, and what we know that what Cooper's been talking to Diane for two seasons here into that microphone. We have to stand a movie and a movie. Two seasons in the movie. Yes.
But now Diane's a real lady and not only is she a real lady, she's a real lady. She's she is none other than tidbit herself. That's right. Lordy.
Lord earns here. I love it. You got it, right? It's like this is like a total fan service.
He kind of moment that I do. Yeah. Just I get off on. I think it's so great.
It's great. And like, you know, the whole idea that, okay, for two seasons, Cooper was talking into the recorder to Diane, who the hell is Diane? We never we never even hear her voice. We know nothing about her.
And they're like, all right, season three, we bring in Diane in here. And who better to play Diane? Like obviously like age appropriate, but also so much history with Lynch, of course. And like what, you know, like you said, like it's fan service, but like, that's like the kind of shit that fans are like, ah, yes, you fucking nailed it.
That's such a slam dunk. Yeah, such a slam dunk. So that's pretty good. She turns around and she doesn't say anything.
She just sitting there like smoking a cigarette and whatever. Very like femme fatale. Which is interesting because like Diane's like a secretary or like an assistant or something. Yes.
Well, she was. I don't know what she was. Yeah. Oh, she transitioned into femme fatale work.
That's right. A career change. Good for her. Yeah, good for her.
She got certified. Yeah, I got her cert. I watched the movie Gilda with Rita Hayworth, the Rita Hayworth movie, you know, where she flips the hair back. No, I don't know.
No, you know it. I don't think I do. Rita Hayworth hair flip. Look it up.
Rita Hayworth hair flip. Yeah. Let's see. Gilda, the iconic hair flip scene.
Of course. The whole scene. I don't think I'm going to know what you're talking about here. It's like on every top 100 movie moment kind of things.
Well, Rob, I'm very youthful. That's not really my way to know about old tiny shit for fogies. Well, fair enough. Well, for some.
Oh, yeah, I just saw it. I've never seen that before in my life, but what I can say for sure is hachi machi baba boom. Well, obviously looking good. Miss Hayworth, the scene starts with her husband saying, Gilda, are you decent?
And then she does that. And she she's wearing a top, but like it's down below her shoulder. So you can't see it. Very scandalous for the time.
If you all say, but she's racing femme fatale there. I like a femme fatale, you know, they got it all figured out. They're playing all the angles, you know, looking for a mommy over there. Yeah, I'm looking for a femme fatale to ruin my life, please.
Seems nice, doesn't it? For a little while. Yeah. Yeah.
You have a good run and then you just like crawl through the gutters until you die. Yeah. Like the whole like detective slash noir thing, like we were talking about it. Like I'm such a sucker for that kind of shit.
There's always a femme fatale and they usually are playing absolutely everybody from all angles, especially like the main character guy who's just like the biggest doofus. And like it's like, you know, the meme where it's like, it'll be like the like the pretty girl meme character. Yeah. And then the guy is like a mummy, basically.
He's just like yes, dear. Yeah. Yeah. Exactly.
That's what you want for yourself. Yeah. I'm the mummy and I want to yeah. Pretty girl to like I said, ruin my life.
Wow. Now you sound like a dam. Why did I think I was going to remember the name of the pharaoh from the mummy? Like the 1999 Oh, well, the mummy.
Uh, you're not. Is it not too uncommon? I don't think so, is it? I do like how you thought that you were just going to be able to pull that name.
Sometimes sometimes I got it. It's emotep. Of course, it's emotep. Yeah.
I don't even think it's a pharaoh. It's the truth. Oh, geez. Oh, yeah.
Oh, he's not priest. You're not to cast aspersions, but oh my God. Remember when the bugs eat you from the inside? No, thank you.
One of the worst things that's ever happened to me is bearing witness to that. Yeah. So, and that's all we see at Albert and Diane, this whole episode, that's it. Just like a quick Diane introduction and we're out.
Yeah, what a tease. So we pick up back in Twin Peaks with Richard Horn. That piece of shit that we saw was a last episode. Yeah.
Yeah, it was when he was physically assaulting a young woman at the at the Roadhouse. Yeah. We know he's a piece of shit, of course. He's there with Balthazar Getty.
Balthazar Getty looks fantastic. Yeah, he really he really does. Fucking God. Yeah, man.
I think we talked about this. Was he in something else besides lost highway or has he been on this before? He may have been in one episode like briefly. OK, yeah, I think he must have been because I didn't remember talking about this one night.
That's right. Yeah, I think he looks so much better now than he did as a young like I think he aged into himself so well. I agree. I was going to say the same thing.
I couldn't be happier for him. You know what I like? I like a person who lets their hair go gray, you know? Yeah.
Yeah. If you got a full head of hair, let it go gray. Let it go gray. You look great.
Basically it turns you into Timothy Oliphant. Yeah, man. That's all it does. Let it go gray.
Man or woman or. Timothy Timothina. Oliphant. What's the girl version?
What's a good girl version of. Well, of course, Timbolina is. Timbolina, of course. I meant, who's a famous gray lady?
Oh, famous. Don't say the New York Times. Do you know about that? That they call that newspaper the gray lady?
No, I didn't know that. That's crazy. Yeah, I think it's New York Times. I can't think of everybody else off the tunnel.
I can't even think of a man with gray hair off the tunnel. My head. Steve Martin. White hair.
But go off, I guess. So Bowser, getting plays a character name Red. And Red is like a big deal drug kingpin in Twin Peaks. And Richard Horn.
Well, he makes Richard sample the drug Sparkle, which is the drug just that they're running in from Canada. Man, they're always running drugs in Twin Peaks from Canada. Yeah, they sure are. Yeah.
That's where if it ain't broke, don't fix it. No, all right. Well, it's true to life. That's where most drug production happens in Canada.
Yeah. So Red makes him do a bump with the sparkle stuff. And he goes nuts. He goes absolutely nuts.
It's basically the drug that Jerry Blank makes and strangers with candy. When the girl climbs the rope really fast. Yeah. Goo.
Yeah. But he's like, he's like, he has like several sort of like, whoa, kind of moments in this drug. God damn, I said goddamn. And then it's kind of red is kind of fucking with him.
You know, he's doing a little karate in front of that. Yeah, I like that. But Richard is like, Hey, man, Richard basically wants to sell drugs. And, you know, he wants he wants to get in business with Red and, you know, make some money here.
Red just keeps sort of fucking with him or whatever. He tells him like, don't ever fuck me. If you ever try to fuck me, I'll some like I'll split your head open and eat your brains. Yeah.
Yeah. Something like that. Something like that. And then sort of a long awkward silence and what do you say to that?
Red reaches into his pocket and pulls out a dime. And I got to say the close up picture of the dime in Balsar Geddi's hand. It looks so much small. His hands look enormous.
Dimes are small. I mean, they are small, but geez, and in this economy, getting only getting smaller. But he flips it up in the air and it hangs in the air. They're just watching it, like just spinning.
And then there's like a and then stops and it disappears and then Richard like pulls it out of his mouth and it's in his then it's in between his like, you know, thumb and index finger and then red catches the dime. It falls out of the air and he catches it and it's no longer in Richard's hand. It's a magic trick. It's a magic trick.
Yes, slight of hand. Yeah, normal stuff, normal stuff. Also when he'll look when he does take the dime out of his mouth, lands on tails, which it also does in Red's hand. Yes, that's true.
And he goes, and he does a cool thing where he goes, tells you lose and he slaps it on his hand. So the heads up, he says heads, I win. Yeah, it's classic. Red also does this thing where he like stops really hard and I got liver problems.
Oh, I love that. Yeah, he's like jiggling his liver around in his body. Yeah, yeah. There's a theory online, Dan, that that red.
Oh, great. Oh, another one. Perfect. This is, I love this.
Go on. That red is, is this a Tremont's grandson? You know, Rob, the thought crossed my mind. Oh, look at Dan making up her net theories, but like he's a magical boy.
I thought, yeah, I mean, well, I thought he just stayed boy for him. I, well, that I don't know. I don't know how the aging works there. I mean, I guess all this doppelganger Cooper got older.
It's doppelganger Cooper got older. Yeah. When you go out into the world like that, maybe that's a thing. Someone should make an internet theory about that.
Yeah, but help me out. So yes. And then, oh, let me we take a quick trip to the trailer park. Wasn't he a trail park?
It was like the fat trout. Yeah. OK. Yeah, the fat trout trailer park where Harry Dean Stanton, who looks exactly the same as did in the movie.
Couldn't help noticing. The only thing that seems different is that he has like fake teeth now. Yeah. Yeah.
No, it's definitely it's very funny that he looks like identical. Probably like 25 years earlier. He's like an inverse Paul Rudd. Yeah.
Where Paul Rudd never ages up from 25 or whatever. 30. Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah. Harry Dean Stanton ever ages down from 93 or what. Yeah.
You got those guys together. You know, you got a Benjamin button. Oh. We got it.
Man, we don't even we don't even like this is just how we think. Like we're just it is how we think. And this is how we think we're thinking in terms of temporal pincer movements. Yeah.
I mean, you have to nowadays. Twenty, twenty guys. They vigilant. The world's a dangerous place.
Yeah. The danger is coming from all sides of the future and the past. So yeah, you got to stay on your toes. So at the fat trout, Harry Dean Stanton, he's about to leave.
He he gets apparently he gets a ride into town every day. It's like this guy who comes in like a van who picks him up and drops him off and then brings him back later. But one of the other residents of the trailer is like, Hey, can I can I hitch a ride with you? I'm I have to pick up somebody's mail.
Like, yeah. So the two of them ride into town and they have like some sort of chit chat conversation pattern. Yeah. Yeah.
Nothing. Nothing real serious or anything. We pop over to the double R real quick. Yeah.
Where we need a new lady. There's a new lady there. Miriam Sullivan. Yes.
Hey, we'll say a convivial gal, a jovial gal. She is jovial. She's a school teacher. I love that her and Heidi are doing and they are just feeding off of each are vibing.
It is good. Yeah. Yeah. Miriam, she cracks, not even like it's not like a joke per se.
It's just like a like a nice story. Yes. A little one of my stories. Yeah.
Yes. The Twin Peaks diner. I say, I bet they got a slice of cherry pie from me in there and I come in and you do. Yeah.
And then and then Heidi starts doing her crazy woodchuck laugh. Yeah. Yeah. That's right.
Yeah. And then Shelly's, you know, Shelly's working there too. She sees all this go down and she gets in on a little bit. Yeah.
She has some fun with it too. Miriam's like Norman Jennings makes the best frickin pies in the whole world or whatever. And she's like, I got it. You know, they talk about their like how school this year.
She's like, oh, the kids are so cute. There was such a little cuties. You know, they talk a little on her way out. She throws a 20 down on the counter, which look, we all know it's on a school teacher salary.
That's a that's a mighty generous tip. And they promise that they're going to treat her next time she comes on the house, on the house, which is very nice. OK, but speaking of on the house, I think we've given enough away for free. This we don't you just get, but I do need to take a break.
Dan needs a break, which means everybody else has to take one too. So that's right. Guys, if you want to keep listening, head on over to patreon.com slash can be pod sign up for the $5 a month tier. You can get the first week for free.
