TWIR 8.20.17 Jesus and the Performance of Wokeness

from The Word Is Resistance · host The Word As Resistance

This week Rev. Anne notes that by lashing out against the Pharisees, Jesus is performing "wokeness" that leads to him harming the Canaanite woman who demands that her child's life matter. There's a lesson here for white folk as we deepen our work towards collective liberation. "What comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart. In the aftermath of Charlottesville, We have to ask ourselves, Do our actions align with the words on our lips? Are we doing the hard work of dismantling white supremacy Every day? In every space? That’s the question for us, Not how woke or good we are, But are we doing the work? Our work? Cuz it’s our work To dismantle white supremacy." Our call to action is to support the resistance in Charlottesville.
