The Snatch Back: When Christian Supremacy is Stealing Your God Audio recording of our SURJ-Faith training call on Jan 8, 2018. Our friends at Soulforce explored with participants the important role of the church in reclaiming the Divine from systems of power and violence. We worked together to connect our ethics and theology to a paradigm shift in the imagination of community security. Topics of discussion included: How is God being co-opted by systems of power (like white supremacy and heteropatriarchy) that perpetuate violence and death, especially in policing? How can we tease out the difference between police officers and the larger policing system? How have churches been complicit or coerced into participating in the policing system, and what is the role of churches to change this disturbing reality and to create a different future that is truly in line with our politics, ethics, and theology?
