Two Fires Near Fourth of July Campground | Albuquerque News
from Albuquerque News Today | 2 Min News | The Daily News Now!
Two new wildfires, the Cerro Fire and the Blanco Fire, have erupted in the Manzano Mountain Wilderness near Fourth of July Canyon, each starting around lunchtime on August 24th at roughly ten acres. Burning in dense timber and mixed conifer, both show active behavior and are being aggressively tackled with direct firefighting tactics. Smoke is drifting over nearby communities including Chilili, Tajique, Torreon, Manzano, Punta de Agua, and the Estancia Valley—expect haze if you’re in those areas. Cause remains unknown, and crews from the Mountainair Ranger District of the Cibola National Forest are working to contain them as conditions evolve. Updates will follow.
