Two hospital births, a wonderful induction, and a healing birth experience
from Arrivals: A Birth Story Podcast · host Merelise Wilson
Trigger Warning: This episode discusses pregnancy loss. Merelise is joined this week by founder + owner of Sculpthouse fitness studio, Katherine Mason Beasley. In this episode, Katherine tells the stories of her two daughters’ pregnancies and births, and the unique health challenges that came with each. During her first pregnancy, Katherine admittedly didn’t want to know much about birth. After going into labor naturally and progressing quickly, she ended up with an epidural that left her feeling almost nothing. While she ended up having a positive birth experience overall, looking back, she felt like it was a bit out of control at times. Her second pregnancy was very challenging, coming on the heels of a pregnancy loss and colored by family crises, as well as concerns around her baby’s health in the first trimester. When it came time for delivery, Katherine knew exactly the birth experience that her heart needed and she advocated to get it. Throughout their conversation, Katherine shows she’s the master of finding the silver lining, explaining how each of the challenges she’s faced has made her a better and more empathetic business owner, fitness professional and friend. They also discuss building a business as a mom, well meaning family who can add to our stress, the humbling physical changes in postpartum, and so much more.
