Two on a Tower Chapter 26

In which Swithin St. Cleeve and his wife Viviette confront a painful misunderstanding about his conduct, only to clear the air with candid affection amid the simple comforts of his column-side cabin. They are suddenly interrupted by a visit from the Bishop of Melchester and others, leading Swithin to unveil his observatory and receive a private summons that leaves him contemplative as night deepens.
