Two Twins Shared the Same DNA.. Only One Was the Killer - The Murder of Sheila Tenpenny
from You Can't Unhear · host Ericka Cuevas
On February 2, 2025, Sheila “Denise” Tenpenny, 64, was found dead inside her home in Fairfax, Ohio. Investigators quickly recovered biological evidence connected to a pair of identical 13-year-old twins living nearby, creating an unusual forensic problem: ordinary DNA testing could not determine which brother had been at the crime scene. Police were forced to rely on physical evidence, phone records, search histories, and the boys’ sharply different digital footprints to separate one twin from the other. In November 2025, one of the twins pleaded guilty in juvenile court to aggravated murder, aggravated burglary, and strangulation. He received the maximum available juvenile disposition and is expected to remain in state custody until his twenty-first birthday. In this episode of You Can’t Unhear, we examine how investigators solved a case that DNA alone could not, the disturbing research found on the teenager’s phone, and the debate over whether juvenile law can adequately respond to a carefully planned killing.
