PLAYER DEVELOPMENT AND SUMMER RECRUITMENT WITH TYLER JACKSON In today's episode, I speak to Tyler Jackson. Tyler has helped Liberty to the finals of an NCAA regional in 2021 and is in his first season on the Morehead State baseball coaching staff as an assistant coach. Tyler, who also was part of two NCAA Tournament qualifying teams at the College of Charleston, helped guide Liberty to 41 wins and the Atlantic Sun regular season title this past season. The Flames won two games in the NCAA Knoxville regional, eliminating Duke to reach the finals against host Tennessee. In this episode, he shares his experiences as a hitting coach on different levels. He talks about what he likes to emphasize with players during fall and during the season. He shares some Recruiting trail tips with everybody who’s in that process or will be in that process. In this episode learn how Tyler develops his players during the fall!SHOW NOTES[2:21] What's something that you're implementing now that you've learned from all your years of coaching and playing experience?[4:01] Why do you have that approach to coaching where it's more so kind of giving letting them take the reins and do what they want?[5:27] What are some of the things that maybe you could possibly share when it comes to getting ready for a game, is there a certain process that you have to help guys get ready to face a certain starting pitcher?[6:41] What are your thoughts on random versus block practice before a game?[7:36] What do the guys think of the machine?[8:43] What's been the biggest challenge?[10:17] What's your take on recruiting a high school player versus a JUCO or a transfer?[11:50] JUCO guys are a little bit different.[15:02] Are you looking for guys more so like up the middle first and then corner spots?[17:52] What value do you put on speed?[19:06] When you find out about a player and you look at maybe their pbr information like will you look at their 60 time there?[19:40] How do you find players?[20:18] Are you not always necessarily trying to recruit the very best player but you're trying to find a replacement for a player that's on your team right now?[22:39] Do you think that transfers and the transfer portal have hurt high school kids getting recruited?[23:31] Division one schools are done recruiting for the 2022 class.[25:22] How do you go about developing these guys in the fall when you have a little bit more time to work with them?[27:31] How little time you have versus how many players are out there.
