Typee Chapter 17

In which the narrator, recovering and growing accustomed to his surroundings, finds himself enraptured by the simple felicities and healthful existence of the Typee people, reflecting with contemplative candour upon the virtues and vices of both savage and civilized societies. Yet, amidst the general tranquillity of the valley, a skirmish with neighbouring warriors briefly disturbs the peace, revealing that beneath the placid surface of this pastoral world, the embers of conflict still smoulder.
