U.S. FDA's chief medical and science officer Prasad departs agency

Vinay Prasad has left his role as the FDA’s chief medical and science officer to return to California and focus on his family, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.His departure followed a series of controversial decisions by the FDA related to the gene therapy drug Elevidys, used to treat Duchenne muscular dystrophy, which had its shipment initially halted due to patient deaths but was later resumed.Prasad, an oncologist known for his prior criticism of FDA leadership and Covid-19 policies, was appointed to key FDA positions in 2021, including director of the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research and later as chief medical and science officer.https://tsbrenterprises.org/fda-chief-medical-officer-prasad-leaves-agency/
