UAWIL #92: Genesis - Foxtrot at 50

from The Ugly American Werewolf in London Rock Podcast · host Mac B.

In 1972, Genesis were gaining momentum and confidence. Thanks to the addition of Phil Collins on drums and Steve Hackett on guitar the year before, the band released Nursery Crime and embarked on a successful European tour. The tour's success inspired them to become more creative and stretch their material out not only for the album but to be played live as well. Foxtrot saw the band experiment with new instruments (like the Mellotron they got from King Crimson), different time signatures and longer arrangements. From the opening Watcher of the Skies through the end of the 23+ minute Supper's Ready, Genesis stretched themselves artistically. Meanwhile, Peter Gabriel concocted ways on tour to create more buzz by wearing his wife's dress and a fox head on stage. Steve Hackett, guest on UAWIL #87, is touring Foxtrot as it turns 50 in the UK September - October 2022 and will bring the tour to Europe and North American in 2023. Listen for insights from Steve on this episode and get tickets to see him on the Foxtrot at 50 Tour. www.hackettsongs.com Ugly American Werewolf in London Website Ugly American Werewolf in London Store - Get your Wolf merch!
