Op 13 april van dit jaar overleed de Uruguyaanse schrijver, journalist en historicus Eduardo Galeano. In 1971 debuteerde hij met ‘De aderlating van een continent’, een politieke roman over de niet vertelde geschiedenis van Zuid Amerika. Vanaf dat moment was hij de grote inspiratiebron voor ‘links’, zowel in Zuid Amerika als bij de grote solidariteitsbewegingen in Nederland. Zijn boek werd dan ook vrijwel meteen verboden door de militaire dictaturen in Uruguay en Argentinie en . hijzelf moest in 1976 het continent verlaten om in Spanje in ballingschap te gaan.
