Verhalen van naasten over het van dichtbij meemaken van euthanasie, een programma van Leonie van Noort Sinds de euthanasiewet in 2002 in werking trad, maken veel mensen gebruik van de mogelijkheid die de wet biedt. De publieke discussie gaat meestal over grensgevallen of uitzonderingen maar in verreweg de meeste gevallen verloopt het goed. Het proces van besluitvorming en uitvoering van euthanasie wordt dan door de toetsingscommissie beoordeeld als zorgvuldig. In 2016 overleden 6091 mensen in Nederland door euthanasie. Een veelvoud van dit aantal, partners, familieleden, vrienden, maakte euthanasie van dichtbij mee. Hoe is dat voor hen geweest, en hoe kijken ze daarop terug? De documentaire laat nabestaanden aan het woord over hun ervaringen. Zij respecteerden het besluit van hun dierbaren om voor euthanasie te kiezen, ze waren erbij toen de scen-arts langskwam en ze stonden aan het bed toen de dodelijke injectie werd toegediend. Een confronterende ervaring waarop zij in deze radiodocumentaire terugkijken.
