Ukraine Targets Soldiers—Russia Targets Equipment

from Professor Gerdes Explains · host Professor Gerdes

What if one side is destroying things… while the other is destroying the people who make those things matter? Ukraine’s drone strategy is exposing a major asymmetry in this war—one that could shape the outcome far more than most realize. New data from Russia’s elite Rubicon drone unit shows a clear pattern: Russian forces overwhelmingly target equipment—vehicles, drones, fortifications—while Ukrainian forces prioritize personnel. That difference is not small. It’s decisive. Russian operators are hitting soldiers only about 6–7% of the time. Ukrainian forces? Roughly 22–30%. That gap reveals two entirely different theories of war. One focuses on destroying hardware that can be replaced. The other focuses on eliminating trained manpower that cannot. This plays directly into Ukraine’s strengths. With expanding Western support—including a newly unlocked €90 billion package—Ukraine can replace equipment faster than it can replace experienced soldiers. So it fights accordingly. Meanwhile, Russia’s more centralized drone strategy emphasizes scale and uniformity—but sacrifices adaptability. Ukraine’s decentralized approach allows rapid iteration, faster innovation, and a sharper focus on what actually degrades combat power. In war, it’s easier to build a tank than train a soldier. And Ukraine is fighting like it understands that. 0:00 The Drone War Nobody Understands 0:33 Centralization vs Decentralization Tradeoff 1:29 Rubicon Data Reveals Targeting Gap 2:02 Ukraine Hits Command, Russia Hits Civilians 3:03 Russia Focuses on Equipment, Not People 4:53 Why Manpower Matters More 6:14 The Data: 7% vs 30% 8:00 Ukraine’s Theory of Victory 9:34 Industrial Strategy: Scale vs Adaptation 10:56 Why This Changes the War #Ukraine #Russia #DroneWarfare #MilitaryAnalysis #WarUpdate #Geopolitics #UkraineWar #DefenseAnalysis Facts over noise.
