Ukrainian Jewish Heritage: A new Holocaust museum in Fastiv

In this edition of Ukrainian Jewish Heritage, we're speaking again with Julia Korsunsky, the Executive Director of RememberUs.org, a nonprofit organization based in Massachusetts. We were first introduced to RememberUs.org when we learned about their project of planting metasequoia trees at mass grave sites of Holocaust victims. These include her own great-grandparents and many other relatives.By their very nature, these trees are appropriately symbolic for this purpose. The trees have been planted at several sites in Ukraine and the project continues.However, this tree-planting project is just the first part of a larger endeavor called the Last Mile. The second phase of the project included the opening of a new museum in the Ukrainian town of Fastiv. Once boasting a Jewish population of 50-70%, now Fastiv is home to a handful of elderly Jews. Julia shares the story of this new commemorative Holocaust museum in Fastiv, and how well it is being received, and utilized, in modern-day Ukraine. Hosted on Acast.
