Beatrice Weber was told her only goal in life should be getting married to a respectable Hasidic man and bearing as many children as possible. After being “rebellious” as a young teen, she was sent abroad to a strict religious school where she was meant to learn to behave. As soon as she returned, her parents set her on a path to marry a Torah scholar for a hefty price. She was only 18 years old. She would then not be allowed to use birth control and go on to having 10 children.
