UMass Upsets Rutgers in Massive Blow | Rutgers Scarlet News

UMass stunned the college football world with a 37-21 upset over Rutgers—despite being 29.5-point underdogs—marking their first win against a power conference team since 2012. Rutgers QB Dylan Lonergan struggled, turning the ball over four times, while UMass’s transfer QB Pop Watson lit up the scoreboard with three first-half touchdowns. For head coach Joe Harasymiak, who previously coached defense at Rutgers, this victory is personal—and monumental after going 0-12 in his debut season. UMass, long plagued by losing records (just 26 wins in over a decade), now has its first real spark. Meanwhile, Rutgers’ bowl-less season continues to spiral as they face USC and Michigan ahead, signaling a tough year ahead.
