UMBC Retrievers secured their N-C-double-A tournament berth by winning the America East championship, marking their third conference title and first tournament appearance since their historic 2018 upset. Standout guard D-J Armstrong Jr. led the team with a career-high 33 points, earning tournament MVP honors. The Retrievers face Howard in the First Four play-in on March 17th, with the winner advancing to face top-seeded Michigan. UMBC capped a thrilling comeback, extending their program-record winning streak to 12 games. Coach Jim Ferry, who reached his 400th career victory, was named conference coach of the year. The team led the league in scoring, defense, and shooting stats, with three players making all-conference teams. UMBCs third N-C-double-A bid comes after losses in their first two tries, including the iconic 2018 upset over Virginia.
