UN awaits Burundi's official intention to withdraw from the ICC

from General Podcast · host Channel Africa

The UN says it has yet to receive official notification of Burundi's intention to withdraw from Rome Statute and thereby the International Criminal Court. The move comes just days after the East Africa nation banned three UN human rights investigators, among them a South African, from entering the country following a report citing serious violations by government officials against their opponents. Burundi's lower-house earlier voted overwhelmingly to withdraw from the ICC, a move that was then approved by the Senate that now awaits the President's signature. Sherwin Bryce-Pease reports.
