Unashamed Growth: Redefining What It Means to Bloom Week 1: Unashamed Space - Taking Up Room to Grow

from The Season of Self Love · host Nyomi Banks

💬 Got something to share? Text or voice note me"Have you seen any growth from me?"This weekend, someone Nyomi loves asked her this five-word question—and shame almost kept her from answering honestly. In this powerful season premiere for April, Nyomi shares the story of choosing truth over comfort, the moment shame tried to creep in, and why she chose to speak her truth with compassion anyway. After a month of reclaiming boundaries in March, April is about what you do with the space those boundaries created. It's about growing boldly, visibly, and unapologetically—even when your growth doesn't look like what others expect. NEW FORMAT ALERT:April is action month. Mindset Monday introduces the weekly theme. Action Wednesday (replacing Wisdom Wednesday) gives you the tools to implement it. No guests this month—just you, Nyomi, and the work of growing unapologetically.IN THIS EPISODE The Weekend & The Altar Moment:Nyomi wakes up at her altar feeling heavy after a weekend of both amazing and life-altering events for loved onesEven in the hard moments, she saw the blessing, the growth, the opportunity hidden in difficultyThe heaviness wasn't about the weekend—it was about a conversation and a question she was afraid to answer honestlyThe Five-Word Question:"Have you seen any growth from me?"One honest question from someone she lovesThe moment she realized they might be measuring two different thingsThe Problem with Defining Growth:Some people think growth means: career advancement, buying a home, getting the promotion, checking boxes—external markers everyone can seeFor others (like Nyomi): growth means becoming a better you, finding who you are, self-love journey, not being limited by expectations or fearGrowth means healing, setting boundaries, showing up when it's hard, choosing yourselfThe Shame That Tried to Creep In:Shame whispered: "Don't say what you really think. Don't hurt their feelings. Just tell them what they want to hear."What if her definition of their growth isn't what they're looking for? What if she honors their internal journey but they think she's saying they haven't accomplished anything?Shame said: "Just shrink. Just make it easy. Just say yes and move on."The pause was long and loud—the quietest, loudest moment of the conversationThe Choice to Speak Truth with Compassion:"First, know that this is coming from love.""Yes, I've seen your growth. I've seen you become more aware. I've seen you set boundaries you wouldn't have set before. I've seen you ask for help when you used to suffer in silence. I've seen you show up for yourself. I've seen you healing."Then the critical insight: "The fact that you're sitting here asking me this question means you're aware that more growth is needed or warranted on your part. And that awareness? That's growth too."5 Lessons About Growth:Growth has no single definition - What looks like growth to you might not look like growth to someone else. You don't have to measure your growth by someone else's ruler. You don't have to apologize for growing in ways that don't fit the script.Shame will try to silence your truth about growth - Shame will tell you that your version of growth isn't "real" growth. Shame will make you apologize for growing slowly. But shame is a liar.Growth requires space - You can't grow in a space where you're constantly being drained, violated, dismissed, or shrunk. The boundaries you set in March created the space for April's growth.Asking for validation is growth - If you're asking "Am I growing?" that means you're aware, paying attention, not on autopilot. Asking is part of the process. Asking is growth.Unashamed growth means defining it for yourself and standing in it boldly - You don't have to shrink your definition of growth to make other people comfortable. You can grow quietly, internally, in ways only you can see. And it still counts. The Bathroom Story (Real-Life Example):Nyomi shares a perfect example of unashamed growth: redecorating her downstairs bathroomShe took down silver wallpaper, got green paint swatches three months ago, finally committedStarted second-guessing: "I think I'm doing too much"Her husband reminded her: "You be you. You've done so much work to be comfortable in your skin. When people walk into our home, they walk in one way, when they leave, they leave another way."The bathroom is part of her sanctuary, part of transformation, part of truthIt's a reflection of her—and being unashamed of that reflection is growth"It just happened to be the color green"Introducing: The Season of Growth (Unashamed)April theme: Unashamed GrowthAfter reclaiming boundaries in March, now it's time to say YES—to expansion, blooming, taking up space, becoming more of who you already areDoing this without shame, guilt, or making ourselves smallNEW FORMAT: Mindset Monday + Action WednesdayPause on Wisdom Wednesday guests for April (guests return in May)Mindset Monday: Introduces the weekly theme, shares story, teaches lesson, sets intentionAction Wednesday: Tools, exercises, challenges, practical implementation steps"Growth doesn't happen by thinking about it. Growth happens by doing."Week 1 Focus: Unashamed Space (Taking Up Room to Grow)A lot of us created boundaries in March—we said no, protected our peace, cleared spaceBut now that we have the space... we're afraid to fill itWe shrink, make ourselves small, apologize for needing space, feel guilty for having boundariesThis week: addressing fear of taking up space, shame around expansion, guilt around bloomingAction Wednesday preview: Identify where you have space now, name what you want to grow there, take one bold visible action to claim it5 Reflection Questions for the Week:How do I define growth for myself? (Not how parents/friends/society define it—how do YOU define it? What does it look like, feel like? What matters to you?)Where have I been ashamed of my growth because it doesn't look like what I "should" be doing? (Where have you apologized for growing slowly? Shrunk your progress? Dismissed your healing because it's not a promotion/house/relationship?)What space did my boundaries create in March? (Time? Energy? Emotional bandwidth? Physical space? Mental clarity? What opened up when you started saying no?)What am I afraid to fill that space with? (Be honest. What do you want to grow but you're scared to claim? What do you want to pursue but you're afraid people will judge? What do you want to expand into but you feel guilty about?)What would unashamed growth look like for me this month? (If you didn't care what anyone thought, how would you grow? If shame wasn't a factor, what would you pursue? If you were completely free, what would you bloom into?)EPISODE AFFIRMATIONI define my own growth. I honor my journey without apologizing.I claim the space my boundaries created.I bloom boldly, visibly, and unapologetically. I am unashamed of my season of growth. I am unashamed of taking up space.I am unashamed of becoming more of who I already am. I am reclaimed.I am unashamed. I am growing. APRIL 2026 THEME BREAKDOWN The Season of Growth: UnashamedWeek 1: Unashamed Space (Taking Up Room to Grow)Week 2: Unashamed Voice (Speaking Without Softening)Week 3: Unashamed Joy (Pleasure Without Guilt)Week 4: Unashamed Expansion (Being "Too Much" Boldly)2026 YEARLY THEME PROGRESSION Reclaimed & UnashamedJanuary: Reclaiming Your VoiceFebruary: Unashamed AuthenticityMarch: Reclaiming Your BoundariesApril: Unashamed Growth ✨CONNECT WITH NYOMIWebsite: AskNyomi.com/seasonofselfloveInstagram: @ TheSeasonofSelfLovePodcast @AskNyomi Share on Instagram: "How do YOU define growth?"
