Uncle Wiggily and the Dormouse is a short children's story in which Uncle Wiggily Longears, a rabbit gentleman living in the woods, receives a mysterious letter promising him a new hat in the green meadow. Along the way he frees a tiny Dormouse with her tail caught between two stones — a small kindness he quickly forgets. At the meadow, a giant silk hat drops from the trees, trapping him in darkness while two scheming alligators sit on top, waiting to grab him.
