Under Pressure - Episode 5

from The Loop, C-IMAGE Research Hosted by David Levin

For more than a thousand years, life in Hamburg, Germany has revolved around water. This riverside city is one of Europe’s biggest ports. But today, a group of scientists is focused on waters half a world away, in the Gulf of Mexico. Using a thick metal tank the size of a hot water heater, they're testing water and oil samples from the Deepwater Horizon spill under extreme pressure. In the process, they hope to simulate conditions at the ocean floor more than 5,000 feet down—at the site where the catastrophic BP well blowout occurred in 2010. Why? Find out in this episode.
